big-block water pump housing detail ???s '69-'70 - 10/05/10 09:47 PM

There are thousands of big block water pump housings out there, the majority of the "muscle car era" big blocks used casting number 2780987 (1967-1971).

GG's "white book" shows two part numbers:
I think the difference in part numbers is due to the tapped holes for the heater hose fittings.
2780988 - ABC-bodies '67-'69 * 2 x 3/8"NPT tapped holes (5/8" heater hose)
2951806 - BCE-bodies '70-'71 * 1 x 3/8"NPT & 1 x 1/4"NPT tapped holes (5/8" & 1/2" heater hose)

1969 Parts Catalog shows one part number:
2780988 - ABC-bodies 1969

1970-'71 Parts Catalog shows two part numbers:
2951806 - BCE-bodies 1970
2780988 - BCE-bodies 1971 Did Chrysler Corp. go back to 2 x 5/8" heater hose for 1971??

Who has a "survivor" type car that can comment on the style of 2780987 water pump housing, date codes & with or without a pentastar? Please include Year, Assembly plant, and SPD.

Does somebody have any '67 to '71 Truck Part Catalogs? What are the big-block truck part numbers?
FYI - '72 Truck w/400 shows #2951806

Bumping this one. Found it doing a google search on B/RB water pump housings.

I have a pump hsg. It looks like casting number 2780967, but it may be 2780987 (hard to read upside down in the car and with paint on it )

The entire engine is from a 1968 New Yorker 440 with ac .
The engine is now in a 1968 Charger with out ac.

My issue is the power steering pump doesnt bolt on right ( federal pump and brackets) .
It appears to me the 2 bosses where the ps pump mount are machined different , thus positioning the pump no where close to align the pump with the lower crank pulley and it tries mount the ps pump at an angle due to the bosses where it mounts from are machined at a different depth.

This one the upper boss is 2-3/8" tall
The lower boss is 2-3/4" tall , this is measuring from the back side of the housing itself where it fits against the face of the block

anyone have a water pump off they can measure the height of the 2 bosses where the ps pump would mount ?

Thanks

GTX, I don't have a p/s pump off, but I have run across this problem. I used stacks of washers to align my p/s pump.
