B Body Steeering Column Question

B Body Steeering Column Question - 09/19/10 10:47 PM

On a 1970 Plymouth B Body steering column, shouldn't the collapsible mesh part be covered with a thin black plastic split sleeve?

I just searched EBay and not one single column has it, even the fancy restored ones don't have it.

I just did this column and thought I was missing it, but now I'm not so sure

I did a 71 A-body column recently and it had one. It also had the screen type lower column as you've shown.
But ,,,, the 2 1970 E-body columns I've done did not have one - they were solid columns.

I did a 1969 Dart column last week and it had one. (seen in the background)...that's what got me thinking that the B Body one should have one too

I've done literally dozens of E Body columns...I know they don't have one

While we're on the topic of steering columns, has there been any threads or articles on tricks/tips/techniques with regards to restoring one?

I'd like to restore my own, but the old shop manual doesn't go into much detail.
