Hi I am working on a 64 Plymouth MW clone Were the Max Wedge cars undercoated in the wheel wells like other Mopars or was it Deleted to save weight

Undercoating was an option and cars were ordered with or without it.

Undercoating wasn't an option in the wheelwells. All regular production cars got it. As for if the Max Wedge cars had it...I have no idea.

When I ordered my new 68 Sport Fury I chose NO undercoating, there isn't a stitch of undercoating anywhere on the car.

Not even in the wheelwells ?
I had a 63 Max wedge cars 20 some years ago but I can't remember what , if any , undercoating it had .

It might be different for aluminum nose vs non aluminum nose cars??
I have underside pics of a OE level 64 aluminum nose car restored in 2001/2002 by Bob Matthews...

...I wonder what that finish is on the LCA...Certainly no cosmoline like the later years...Obviously bare but looks to be preped/washed in some type of rust inhibitor mabe ???

My '63 330, while not a Max Wedge car, was a stripper /6 with virtually no options. Rubber floor mat, manual steering, manual brakes, bench seat etc.
The only undercoat it has is in the wheelwells. It doesn't even have any behind the rear wheels (trunk floor extensions) or any traces on the floorpans.
On page 30 of the book "Maximum Performance" it shows an undercarriage pic of a Max Wedge car and despite it being in black and white you can make out the rough texture of undercoat in the front wheelwells.
It does go on to say on page 47 that in 1964 the lightweight package "deleted all sound deadener, undercoating, silencer pads and insulation."

Also have some consideration the car was restored in 2001. The level and knowledge has been raised considerably since then.
The 1965 Cars Magazine undercarriage picture of an 65 A990 shows black LCA's of all things.

Sweet!! however, 64 Chrysler products did not have grease fittings when shipped from the factory. Plugs were installed and were to be removed for the 1st scheduled lube job at 32,000 miles. I've seen many cars that still had plugs after 30 years of use.

Steve I don't know this restorer but is this a good example , way to many concours type restos leave off the undercoating for reasons I can't begin to fathom.

It seems the factory 64 aluminum optioned cars were delete all undercoat. 65 A990's are all undercoat delete as well as the 68 Super Stock. I think 67 RO/WO cars are also delete undercoating.
So not the right example for a steel nose car. But it's a Max Wedge car, he didn't say if he was cloning a steel nose car or not. A lot of clones have features that only aluninum nosed cars had.
Also I thought some of the other undercarriage details would be helpful.

Yes it's a good picture for dretails , I saw the post about the Alum. nose cars after I made that reply , almost edited it but I didn't.
