Max Wedge Hood Holes - 09/02/10 01:39 AM

I purchased a max wedge hood scoop/holes template kit from hemieddy, and need cut the holes in the hood of my '64 Plymouth Savoy.

How would you recommend cutting the 2 large holes, so that they are nice clean cuts and perfectly round?

If anyone has done this before, and has some good advice, please let me know. Some photos would be great also. Thanks.

Mark the holes with the template.

Drill a small hole in the part you want to discard.

Insert an air nibbler and cut close to the line.

Use a die grinder with sandpaper roll to "finish".

That's how I do it anyway.

A trick I've used on similar round hole cutouts is to put a screw at the exact center of the hole, then bend a piece of heavy welding wire (or similar) with a loop around the center screw and the other end is attached to a jig saw (or other cutting tool of your choice). Using this, you can follow a cutout line with much greater accuracy.
