68 b body, What goes under this bolt ?

In the dash steering column support....

Good question. My 68 is an auto car and did not use that hole. Maybe a 4-speed thing?

That hole is for brace that runs from lower dash mount bolt to that hole on a four speed car,not sure on auto.

It looks like it goes to the dash support bolt...

I will dig around but I dont remember taking that out of the car.., or seeing it.. it must be 20 inches or so long...

I just parted another 68 RR auto from St Louis plant. It did not have that brace

Although not a 68, my 69 RR (auto) has this brace as well....

I have located the rod and installed it. Best part is it was already cleaned and painted !

Here is hoping I can get the rest of the car back together before I loose the what is left of my memory..

That rod is in the way with tic toc tac rallye gauges.....looks like it was missing from the factory with my 69 Bee.....I had a 69 parts car with standard gauges and it was there.

Nothng to add here, but in your pic with the rod installed your 'protected' shift lever looks alot like my hands at the end of a long weekend thrashing on the car.

Thats what I thought it was at first glance too, was someones hand.

This raises a couple of questions I have:

1) Was this rod also used in 1969 B bodies, too? (specifically Chargers, but I would imagine Super Bees too)

2) If 1) is true, then was it only used in non-tic-toc-tach equipped cars?

You are right, it does look like a hand...

both of my '69 coronets have it. they both have the standard dash.

My late 68 4spd RR has the brace. May be a 4spd thing or just a later addition to all 68's.

My 68 was built in Oct of 67 it has the brace.It is auto column shift

Maybe not just tach cars.....is this brace in the way with any rallye gauges, that would include 70 road runners
