Try 2 or 3 years. Fred is so busy he doesn't return any phone calls. Mine is in need of a rebuild as well.

If anyone knows of any other rebuild services other than Fred, please let us know.

Thanks,

Harry

I'm pretty sure Jules was looking into it, but I'm not sure if he decided to do it or not.

One of my C.D.F. (Certified Detail Freak) associates here in NJ, Bill Meerholz, has re-done several 2806070 and 3462112 fan clutches with outstanding results. For fan clutch info and other component restoration services, contact him as follows:

Bill,
would you be able to post a picture of how your friend installs the front faceplate back onto the housing please?
Thanks

Re: A12 Fan Clutch (2806070) Dimensions - 01/23/08 01:48 AM

After disassembling an unusable core for an overall evaluation, and, as a result, in our estimation, because of the extremely thin gauge of the metal involved and other potential durability problems, the decision was made to refinish only sound cores not requiring the disassembly process. Considering the fan clutch is often just behind a 1500.00 radiator, it was felt this was the safest route for all parties concerned. Need a reference? Call Ted Stephens. A unit was done for him. Any further questions, contact Bill M. per the info provided in my previous post.

If I understand you correctly, the clutch is not opened at all then. I don't see the resto process
then. No matter. I was just curious.

Until there is a greater comfort level with the reattachment of the front plate FOR THE LONG HAUL, yes. As stated, it is extremely thin. We want to be sure that these units are suitable for normal, and even extended length driving, not just sitting dormant.

There are alternative, permanent methods being explored now. In the interim, there are good cores on hand. Contact Bill M. as previously stated for further details.

I just got an invoice from Fred Oliva yesterday for mine, it's been almost exactly a year since I mailed it to him. I put check in the mail within a half hour of getting my bill. I look forward to seeing my restored fan clutch!

What eaxactly is done during the restoration - or rephrased, what causes a fan clutch to become less resistant - are there vanes inside the unit similar to a torque converter?

Got my bill from Fred this week also! Was one year on 9/19. If mine looks anything like his other work, it should be really nice.

Re: A12 Fan Clutch (2806070) Dimensions - 01/21/09 04:06 PM

I have a fan clutch that after looking at many photos of 070 clutches, it looks dead on. The measurements are 7 1/4" diameter, but the length is 2 3/4". 1/4" longer than it should be and the shaft seal is dark blue, not red. What would this be for, and any one have a part number? THANKS

What is the length of the shaft measured like the pic I posted earlier in this thread using the wooden ruler?

Re: A12 Fan Clutch (2806070) Dimensions - 01/21/09 04:24 PM

Blue seal with a longer shaft might be a 3462112 -they are noticeably taller than the 070 units

Re: A12 Fan Clutch (2806070) Dimensions - 01/21/09 04:26 PM

Measureing from stud hole to end of shaft is 1 1/2", and blue seal. Everthing else looks dead on.

Re: A12 Fan Clutch (2806070) Dimensions - 01/21/09 07:13 PM

I got my invoice in September but my fan clutch didn't show up until just before Christmas. I guess there was a plating problem and mine was among a group that needed to be redone. Not a big deal except I wasn't notified, feared my part was lost in shipping, and my emails asking where it was were ignored.
All's well that ends well I guess, as it is safely stored here and will look good on the car someday if it ever gets finished!

Looks Nice

Is there a date code on it? I can not see one in the photo.

Re: A12 Fan Clutch (2806070) Dimensions - 01/21/09 07:26 PM

No, I think there is supposed to be a datecode on the front face somewhere. I guess I will need to stencil one on myself. This was the original fan clutch off my car, I wish I had cleaned it up and looked for markings including the datecode before I sent it off to Fred.

Are there any numbers stamped in your fan blades? My fan blades are all indiviually stamped with the fan p/n. The only paint on my original is "Engine Side". Do you think it could be either way?

Re: A12 Fan Clutch (2806070) Dimensions - 01/23/09 12:24 AM

I believe the slightly longer shaft one is from a 340. I've used them before and they work fine. Also, there is stil 1 3/4" clearance from the front of the fan to the radiator fins. IMO-I wouldn't hesitate to use it.

Re: A12 Fan Clutch (2806070) Dimensions - 01/23/09 12:47 AM

my flan blate in only ink stamped, no part #'s stamped. I have seen others/later model with each blade stamped.

May have been more than one supplier?

Is that possible?

Re: A12 Fan Clutch (2806070) Dimensions - 01/24/09 04:55 PM

Mastershake and I were in the same batch because I had mine delayed also. Fred said his plater accidentally plated it the wrong color. Took about 9 months before I got mine back. If you have any imperfections on yours before its re conditioned, they will show later when it gets re plated. Mine has 2 tiny spots on it but aren't very noticable. This is a 71 clutch.

Can someone educate me on date coding on these clutch fans? My engine build date was April 6, 1970. What code should be stamped in the center of my fan clutch?

Re: A12 Fan Clutch (2806070) Dimensions - 01/24/09 07:54 PM

Thanks for all the great ansers. I would say mine is a 112. The shaft is 1/4" longer with a blue seal. Anyone have a restoreable 070 that wants to sell or trade for my restorable 112? It is not worn out, leaking, broken etc. I need to get one soon and send it out to be restored. As i am about a year or so left with the bee. THANKS
