A-12 Hurst Shifter handle ???

A-12 Hurst Shifter handle ??? - 08/11/08 02:46 AM

I noticed a photo posted on another site ( For B Bodies Only posted by Plymouthfan) of a White/Black with pewter interior A-12, and the shifter handle that was what I thought somewhat unique..

It was sort of a Lazy "S" that had the shifter ball quite high. It almost looked like a '65 4-speed shifter.

Was the A-12 Hurst shifter simular to the '68 RR (that I have) or was it different?

Can anybody tell me what shifter handle is in the photo?

I really do like it.

Thanks all,
Frank

A12 did not have a special shifter handle , usedthe same handle as every other 4 speed B body in 69 .

what you saw was not original

Thanks JohnRR.

I sort of thought that.

Any idea what shifter handle that was in the photo?

Yea, I know it's not the best photo.

I still seem to think it's from a 64/65 Dodge/Ply 4-speed.

If I remember (it's tough when you get old) correctly they had the long lazy S handles.

Oh well. The search continues.

There are 2 such shift levers, I have one of each, one having the ball positioned more vertically than the other, using a tighter bend near the top of the lever. The aftermarket Hurst shifter I bought in 1988 came with the more vertical location.
I seem to recall a long handle with one angled bend above the floor console in the '64 Sport Fury a friend had, but that was 30-some years ago. It could be that the S-shaped handle was the aftermarket Hurst design, or was for non-console cars - hopefully someone here knows for sure.

Topside,

I think your on the right track. I too remember the '64. But things get foggy as the years go on.

Is there anyway you could post or send me a photo of the handles you have?

It would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Frank

Here's a '64 Sport Fury survivor 4 speed. Seems to have one bend only

Can't speak to the originality of this '64 but it looks the same as the previous survivor picture I posted.

Thanks to all for the responses.

I figured out what I was looking for.
Hurst 391 6789

Alaska A-12 - - Thanks for the photos. Those are correct for a 64 with a console. The shifter I was looking for was for 64/65 without console.

As simple as it was I was only able to locate it by help provided by members of this board.

That's what keeps me here.

I think the shifter you are thinking of has a rectangular handle where the one in the photo appears to have a round handle.
