What is the name of the chrome on top of the door 68 - 05/05/10 01:47 AM

My 68 dart 270 had chrome on top of the door that ran along the windows, front and back. It also had a small curved piece that went up the back of the rear window on the c-pillar. It was a vinyl top car. Does this molding have a name or code? was it for vinyl top cars only? what years had this chrome, what models? Thanks

I refer to this as the upper belt molding.

A lower belt molding would refer to the trim along a lower body line such as the small lower belt molding found on a 69 GTX. Lower belt moldings tend to be found on the higher trim line cars such as a GTX, Sport Satellite etc.

STD on 68 and 69 GTS and GT's. I think it probably went onto later years too. And probably 67's. Didn't matter if it was vinyl top or not. All 68 and 69 (probably 67) verts got them because verts had to be GT and GTS.

It may have been an option on 270's. Check http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/ for more concrete answers.

Thank you all for the info. It was an option on the 270, as my car had it, and it was original when I got it. I guess I will put it back on.

Not STD on 69 GTS's and not available on 67 convertibles AFAIK but STD on 68 and 69 convertibles. I really believe it was optional on ALL 270, GT, and GTS in 68 and 69 as I have seen it both ways on all three of these body styles. 67 already had WAY to much stainless on them...

Opps.

Did later Darts get the same molding? Like the 70-72 cars.

Did we come to the conclusion that door upper molding is the same as 67-69 Barracudas?

Was it standard on 68&69 convertibles? I saw a '69 GTS at Carlisle a couple of years ago that did not have it. I was staring at the transition pot metal trim piece where the roof cover snaps on to trying to figure out why it looked odd. It just ended, vs. mine that actually connects to the belt molding. I thought it was odd.
