Is there a rule of when a fluid drive cooling fan

Is there a rule of when a fluid drive cooling fan - 04/04/10 07:22 PM

clutch was used as opposed to simply having a spacer with the fan. I have a 70 challenger 383 and trying to determine how it would have come with.
Also like to mention that the FSM references cars with air conditioning have the fluid drive fan, no mention of HP cars.
Thanks Norm

It is usually associated with the heavy duty or max cooling. A 22" radiator'd 383 is fixed & a 26" radiator'd 383 has a clutch fan.

The A/C cars used the thermostatically controlled fan drive (spring in the middle of the drive hub). The performance cars without A/C used the fluid drive.
It is listed on the Broadcast sheet.

Snoopy, was there a definition of what a high performance car was???? Or when did a car just get a solid fan with the spacer??

I think that you can see that it's determined by engine size, AC and axle package.

I found the code 24 in the fan box on my b/s. I guess that means it came with the 2863224 fan which is the fan with the spacer.

Look in the box next to the fan, (FAN SPA).
