I hate organosol and my PPG guy .. - 08/02/08 01:33 AM

Third whack at using ppgs ( omnicrap or whatever it is )
to try to get my airgrabber right ..

Tonite was my third try .. with a new batch ..

all the metallic crept up to the top after it dried .. It looks like someone sprinkled glitter over gloss black paint ..

What the H happened to all the Organosol posts on this site and why isnt one Archived in TEch ????

I didn't know that there's a formula for Organasol in Omni.I wouldn't use it anyway.

Use DCC9355 if you want it to look good.

And it's Lacquer! I wouldn't want to take the risk of spraying it over fresh enamel or urethane.

Hey Andy,

thanks for the quick reply ,, i was a contortionist trying to install a headliner in the car with a roll bar all weekend . stayed off the computer

The paint Im using is actually Concept 9355

I believe its a urethane .. .. My paint guy said all the texture went to the bottom of the can ..

I shook , I stirred it , I rolled it . I give up

Do you sell an amatuer painters friendly organisol ??

if you do have a product ,, can i paint over the urethane ??

Yes.. this machine is a time bandit...

I don't have a paint I'm ready to market at this point.

Here's what I'd suggest...
wet sand what you've done so far, to a flat surface without cutting through to a lighter color (if you have a lighter primer underneath).
500# would be good.
Let it dry thoroughly, then prep wipe.
Tack rag wipe it off nice & clean.

Take a deep breath and repeat your favorite mantra...

Now go over it with one medium wet coat, being careful to be "robotically consistent" with gun distant, speed and overlap.
With that clean flat and solid black base, you should be able to do this one clean coat with excellent results. Piling coat over coat can give trouble with the texture and zebra striping because you keep adding more texture with each coat.

If you did "work off the top" of the can and left texture on the bottom of the can, I also suggest getting a new can'o paint... otherwise you're going to be working with too much texture.

HTH,
Rick

Spraying Organosol is a major pain! I would suggest putting some ball bearings in the cup to agitate the mix between coats. The texture does settle rapidly, and can dry to the inside of the cup as well, causing possible chunks when you spray a second coat. I have actually emptied, flushed, and refilled my gun in between coats.

I have a new can of DCC9355 and nos DDL9355.
I did a comparison.
There is no visible texture additive in the DCC9355 but there is in real DDL9355 Organisol.

Can anyone list the formulas?

Third post down by member beepbeep in this thread has the DDL9355 formula, as follows:

DMA349 Coarse Poly 24.0
DMA358 Strong Black 804.0
DMA364 Texture 972.0

Here is another good thread on organosol as well.

BTW, is one of them a metallic compound? My hood has a metallic sheen to it when the sun hits it just right.

DCC9355 IS NOT the same as DDL9355...not even close
I just sprayed some DCC9355...

For the real deal in organisol paint DDL9355 must be used. As to the whether or not the correct texture additive is in the new DDL9355-that is unknown at this point as any correct technical info seems to be made of unobtainium.
