Maybe some very early 69's that got left over 68 rafios. I've owned a lot of 69 B Body car all had chrome push buttons. Only my 68's had black.

No debate. I don't really care. My radio doesn't workanyway

Re: AM/FM radio B-body - 03/30/10 01:28 AM

I was just kidding. What one assembly plant put in one car another put in something else. It was Chrysler, when they ran out of something they just put in the next thing they had laying around.

I know. Like some 69's had black door buttons. But what is usually considered correct would be chrome door buttons

Re: AM/FM radio B-body - 03/30/10 01:34 AM

The AM/FM radio was NOT a factory installed OPTION in 1968 in a b-body.

It was available over-the-counter or dealer installed through the Dealer Accessory Catalog.

The radio pictured is a '69 unit. The '68 Dealer unit has a pentastar on the face.

More to debate on. Chrome buttons for the radio's were c bodies and possible a bodies.

Can I make it in a 68 dealer radio?

A body and C body radios do not interchange with B body cars.

But that's what had chrome buttons, never said they interchanged.

Re: AM/FM radio B-body - 03/30/10 01:50 AM

The radio pictured has chrome buttons and it's a B body radio. My car has chrome buttons and it's a B body car. Not just C body cars had chrome buttons.

No, They are black buttons. Take a better look. Got a pic of your radio? I have owned so many 68/9 B bodies I can't even begin to count them, not a one of them am or am/fm had chrome buttons.

Re: AM/FM radio B-body - 03/30/10 03:49 AM

I have personally handled over 1,000 68-9 B body AM / AM FM radios and have NEVER seen one with chrome push buttons. I have , however, seen plenty of A and C body (chrome buttons)radios with parts swapped over in an attempt to make a B body radio.

Re: AM/FM radio B-body - 03/30/10 03:55 AM

This is the "68" B body face with pentastar.
AM FMs were factory available in 68 on the B body . I have had original dealership brochures for Satellite / Coronets etc. showing it as a
factory option.

Re: AM/FM radio B-body - 03/30/10 04:08 AM

To ad to the debate, their is a chrome button 5 watt(?) early 1968 B body radio shown in the Sams manuals (looks alot like the music master found in the Monoco) however, I have not had one in my hands, and they are visably different than the
typical Bendix B body radios.

Re: AM/FM radio B-body - 03/30/10 05:21 AM

As far as what I've seen for factory installed '68 b-body radios:
sales code
420 AM radio w/stereo 8-track tape $196.25
421 Music Master AM radio $61.55 - 2 watt
422 Astrophonic AM radio $92.70 - 5-1/2 watt & CHARGER ONLY

Re: AM/FM radio B-body - 03/30/10 05:43 AM

I believe 423 is the correct buildsheet code for B body AM FM in 1968.

I'd love to see a b'cast or fender tag with a 3 under the R for a '68 b-body.

R/0 -- AM 8-track

68 - 69 5 watt AM - 04/03/10 08:28 PM

Here is the 5 watt radio.
It has the original paper decal on top reading :
2864 948
Model 389
Mark M 2 (?) 2 is what it appears to be

Appears to be Motorola ?
It is completely unique internally compared to all the other'68 - '69 radios I've had .

The pointer is white from the factory
The push buttons are chrome , with a pattern on top

My 1968 Chrysler parts book list it as :
Model 389 , Deluxe , AM, W , PN 2884064

For 1969 it is listed as :
Model 389 , AM Deluxe , W-P , W-S , Fastback PN 2884064
