Re: A40 option - 07/31/08 10:24 AM

I thought it was supposed to have the black hood scoops, but what shade of black, glossy black or more of a flat black? I don't think I've ever seen one with the black scoops, only body color.

The information is a little sketchy, at least according to GGs white books. He lists the "performance hood treatment" in both the A39 and A40 packages, and we are to assume that meant black scoops, but there is no mention of the SIDE scoops at all.

Does anyone have a 1969 Dodge Dealer Data Book that can shed any light on this?

Spring special with vinyl top.

SS included: the hood with V21 hood performance tratment, the hood pins, light package, pedal dress up, belt molding, 3 speed wipers (to go with the hood), remote mirror, and a couple of other things I can't recall.

Spring Special is not listed in data book as it came out after the book.

Spring Special hood with pins and black scoops.

Re: A40 option - 07/31/08 07:38 PM

I have seen several pictures of 69 Super Bees over the years with both Black hood scoops and Black side scoops, but have never seen any proof that the side scoop came from the factory that way. I don't recall there being a procedure to order them that way when new, but then again I also don't remember the hood scoops coming Black in the Spring Package either.

Somewhere I know I have a picture of an original window sticker for one of these cars and it definitely had the side scoops on it. The side scoops were black and the car was a rough unrestored car.

My bee has a build date of 6/27/69. Any idea when this option became available?

Govier's white books does have a note (CYA) "Some packages may not include all items listed for certain models. Consult Data Book for specific listings" This however does no good determining what would have come in the Spring Special packages as dealers were notified by special sales bulletin of the packages availability, content, pricing, and ordering instructions.

Does anyone have a copy of the sales bulletin for 1969 Dodge Coronet models?

Dealer notices for "SPRING SPECIAL" packages started hitting dealerships around February for new spring releases to be available in March/April.

I would "assume" the packages for Plymouth Road Runner & others (A14/A15) and Dodge Super Bee & others (A39/A40) were released in a similar manner.

The earliest 69 Spring Special code I've seen is on a Charger with a January SPD. March - July is typical.

Here's a link to a March 7, 1969 PIB that references the Spring Special bulletin dated 2/27/69

I have a set of sequential vin # 69 spring special super bees. My one car, my dad bought new. It is a 22,000 mile survivor and was featured in the aug 05 issue of Mopar Collector's Guide. My other bee is R6 red/blac top/stripe/ scoops/interior. They were the only b-bodies in 69 that came with raised letter f70 14 polyglas GTs also.

Yeah, I guess I should have said the spring special cars were the only ones with raised letters. MY BAD

My survivor doesn't have the belt mouldings, remote mirror, or pedal dress up. Neither does my other spring special. both are coupes by the way.

When you say scoops are you referring to the hood or side scoops also? If it had side scoops were they Black or body color?

Re: A40 option - 08/01/08 05:03 AM

I'm talking hood scoops. They are flat black. curiously, they have a touch of orange oversplay on the back of them and it is an untouched B5 blue car
