Correct engine color 67 440?

Correct engine color 67 440? - 01/29/10 12:18 AM

Fixing to drop an engine in soon to a 67 R/T. The engine is not painted yet and I want it to be the correct color. Have looked at several websites and pictures and "restored" photos, some are street hemi orange, some are turquoise. Which is correct? Mine is an early production, August 66 if that matters.

Turquoise with Chrome Valve covers and a black wrinkle dual snorkel air cleaner (no they weren't turquoise like in the 67 sales brochure!).

Not all 67's had chrome valve covers. There is nothing in mother mopars lit that states chrome valve covers. 99% were dealer installed at time of purchase. 99% of all 67's had painted valve covers that matched motor color.

Sorry, other than the "never say never" safety clause I'll add in for the possible oddball turquoise VC's that might have escaped onto a production line 67 GTX HP 440 (I've never seen a single documented example), I completely dissagree with you. Chrome Valve covers were standard equipment on all 67 GTX & R/T HP 440's and were installed on the production line, not the dealers.

show me the documentation. Many people on many forums have looked into this and no one has ever found anything from mother mopar stating these cars were produced with chrome valve covers on the assembly line. I've been to many mopar nat's and looked at countless 100 point 67 X's and spoken to there owners. 99% of them had painted valve covers. A few had the orignal sale's paperwork showing dealer installed chrome valve covers. Again show me the documents.

So you are saying you have confirmed that 99% of all original GTX's came with painted covers? Please fill me in on how you accomplished that feat.

As far as having seen "Countless 100 point 67 GTX's" go, it doesn't matter how many restored cars you've seen, that doesn't mean they are original or correct. Survivors with good history would be the place to look for those types of details.

There not 100 point cars if there not correct. I don't care how pretty you make a 4 speed car look if it was born an auto it will never be a 100 car at the nats.

So what class at the Mopar Nationals are judged on a 100 point standard? Just curious.

Had 2 67 GTX's both very original 4spd cars back in the day and they were just as it says above. Never saw different on a 67 GTX. Now my 67 R/T's engine was orange and had big black valve covers on it.

I am the second owner of a canadian 67 R/T and it is well documented (sales receipt, build sheet etc.) with no mention of installing chrome valve covers at the dealer. It has chrome valve covers and wrinkle dual snorkel air cleaner and engine is turquoise. Nothing on the build sheet. Hope this helps.

I believe I'm going to go with the turquoise and chrome valve covers. I have a dual snorkle, wrinkle paint air cleaner also. Logan426, I'm right about 100 miles from Inman, just outside Hickory.

If you are looking for a set of correct chrome VC's here is a set, they can be hard to find in good shape like these, they are not just "generic" chrome valve covers. So far the price is quite reasonable for them as far as "going rate" is concerned.
