challenger window nut/clip - 12/08/09 11:03 PM

when i bought a window hardware rebuild kit for my challenger i was told that everything to rebuild the sliders is in there----------yea, right.

it's a 72 Challenger, build date 12-7-71, happy birthday! i am missing one of these rectangle clips/nuts, whatever you want to call it. i'm guessing that the hardware was changed due to the possibility of the early style can break. i'd like to locate one instead of switching, you know , originality thing.

here are some pics

That's exactly what's on my 73. I only have two of them...one on each side. When I took the side glass out, one on each side was missing.

R/T Specialties has the window guide kits but I havn't looked to see if that clp is available. I hope so...I need two.

Those closely resemble parts from a chevelle window, I wonder if a glass shop substituted parts to repair the typical broken/missing parts?

FWIW I just looked on Ebay & didn't find the chevelle parts but did find corvette & camaro parts & while they are different they would work..

What's wrong with the rebuild kit?

The clip is a non wear item. No reason it should be in a rebuild kit.

The 73 parts manual shows that nut as being part number 6029 003 if that helps any.

Ten years ago I could not find them anywhere. Glass shops around here were a dead end.
I made my own with spring steel from a retainer for hanging cable trays in TV stations and such. Drilled a hole in it smaller than the screw then dimpled it with a center punch to provide more grab. It is still in there.
Still would highly recommend the real part for peace of mind.
