Cool find A12 Documents - 12/31/06 01:57 PM

As some of you know I just purchased an A12 from the sister of the original owner. Yesterday she called me and said she found some parts and asked me to come get them if I wanted. I picked up the part which was a nice conditon tail panel, carb kit, brake shoes, and steering rod and coupler. I asked if I could look around the garage for the card linkage which I don't have yet. I found a box with some paper work in it so she said I could go through it. This is were the fun starts, I found the original window sticker for the car in excellent conditon, I found the original sales contract for the car. The brother put down $618.00 and made $105.00 month payments. I found the warranty book for the 440 and the original build sheet was attached to the book.
Also My car has a replacement block because of some over reviving back in the day. I found the Dodge work order were the block was replaced under warranty.
There were also some other papers such as state inspection receipts, repair receipts, and car insurance paper work. I felt like a kid on a treasure hunt. cool day

My Wife came home from shopping( who would have guessed) and scanned the window sticker for me. It should be attached. The document has a small crease in the middle I need to figure out how to flatten the paper.Alot of the receipts are folded so I will also need to flatten them out as well.

Gary,

Great find

Got any dates off the documentation that can help estimate the build the time frame of your car?

Thanks Guys for all the kind words. I thought the build date was on the fender tag, Mine has 4/26 for the build date.
Coop I checked the gas filler opening and I see what you mean it is oval.
Happy New years to all.

Re: Cool find A12 Documents - 01/01/07 02:15 PM

all the second batch cars had the 4/26 SPD, even if it was the last one built in July! My SPD is 4/26 but actual build date was around 5/31.

Aren't you curious about what is Y21? Someone on this forum ought to know? Dave? Is that the special limited warranty instructions or does it have anything to do with headers instead of exhaust manifolds? I have not seen it on a window sticker before and there is no Y21 blank on a broadcast sheet?

Very cool. Good luck with it. I have never seen that code. Here is a pic of the window sticker of the one I just picked up.

Motor EAD 6/13
Motor Casting 5/16
Door panel 5/18
Wiper motor 6/3

Having trouble downsizing to an attachment file without losing size of pic. Hope this isn't too big 700x600.

Rick.

Re: Cool find A12 Documents - 01/02/07 01:30 AM

Apparently it has nothing to do with any options. It's just to make sure the dealer goes thru the correct paper work for selling the A12 special package.

Re: Cool find A12 Documents - 01/02/07 01:17 PM

John,

This Y21 thing has come up in the past. I cannot find the thread on it, must have been more than a year ago.

I don't recall it being decided back then either. I think the thread got nasty and was dismissed.

Interesting seeing the Y21 in writiing and saying "HEADERS". Kinda sounds like the car came with headers instead of factory exhaust manifolds.

I was thinking the Y21 was on the tag of the Don Grotheer car.

Re: Cool find A12 Documents - 01/02/07 03:06 PM

Thats a good one Y21

I am guessing that it isn't factory installed headers and or headers in the trunk ala '69 Z/28's but rather some sort of special intructions or stickers that needed to be applied to the car.

The series of Y options were used my Chrysler as codes for sold codes, just as the M series was used for mouldings.

I am guessing if Mopar offered headers from the factory it would have been another A series of options or maybe a N series along with dual exhuast and chrome tips.

Also notice there was no extra charge assigned...I don't think they would go to the extra trouble of installing custom exhuast on the assembly line and not make some extra $$$ for it.

I think headers were available at the dealership level. As part of the Scat pack or Hustle Stuff program. These would not show up on the window sticker, but rather the selling dealer generated invoice.

Also note that car was delivered without any fuel? Are those two codes related?

[sarcasm] did it come with one of those 100 mpg special carbs that the oil companies efffectly took out of the marketplace[/sarcasm]

Thanks for posting the window sticker!

Where's Mike R when you need him

Could the Y21 have showed up on the Broadcast sheet in the LEASE/SALES column were there are no predefined digits?

Just comparing Gary's and Rick's stickers. 2 items stick out as maybe pertaining to the Y21.

1. Was it common that the sold to and ship to dealerships were different?

2.The "Charlotte Drive A Way" (with No gas ) under the destination charge?

Re: Cool find A12 Documents - 01/02/07 06:54 PM

We may have previously discussed that Y21 was for conforming with the "Moroney Price Label" (Federal) consumer protection law that made sure there were no hidden or missing items and clearly spelled out what the customer was paying for and getting. I think there was special documentation requirements and the fender tag needed to say it was originally a 383 engine with the A12 special V-8 conversion. There was a cover letter to all of the A12 package documentation that specifically stated that this Special Sales Order needed to have specific documentation and the Moroney Price Label (aka window sticker) had to have certain info on it and that the Moroney Price Label info had to be reported to Car Division Service Department and a special warranty book would be provided by the factory.

Y17 Corporate Lease Car System

Y21 Special Headers & Tag Instructions

Y22 Corporate Lease Car - Executive

Y23 California Package Edit Waiver

Y24 C.L.C. Lease Car - Direct Leasing

Yes,

BUT what the H E Double Toothpicks does it mean?

Re: Cool find A12 Documents - 01/03/07 01:54 AM

Are you asking what "Special Headers & Tag Instructions" means? If so, anything special could require this. Headers (or Footers) were (and still are) usually supplimental instructions for shipping and billing. As you might have noted this car was "dropped shipped" to a dealer - Dodge Country (not the sold to dealer). The special instructions for a "Charlotte Drive Away" indicate that this car was probably prepped for some dealer promotional event (we still do them today). This is where dealers come to an event then take their car home with them. The Y85 option sets up prep and payment but not a gas fill-up. Hope this helps some. Dave

I know this is an OLD thread but I had to bump it back to the top to thank the poster of this information. I'm staring at an invoice for a 383 70 road runner and it has the y21 code. Most of my search results were very vague or implied the car had special order exhaust headers etc. But this car WAS a car billed to Chrysler corporation as a Kansas City "Field Car" and shipped to a KC area dealer for pickup so the y21 makes sense. Using the term "special headers" threw me for a loop on a regular ol' 383 car and apparently has confused many others who have this code on their paperwork as well. Poor choice of words through the musclecar era.

Re: Cool find A12 Documents - 10/30/18 02:21 AM

Y21 refers to the 'Header' on paperwork like a window sticker, factory invoice to the dealership or MSO.

Shipped to a different address than the 'selling' agency is the most common from those I have seen so far.

Re: Cool find A12 Documents - 10/30/18 02:39 AM

Makes perfect sense but this thread was the only place I found that didn't imply that the car came with special parts installed or in the trunk smile.

Barry I need to get back on my list of dealer paperwork I have access to and get it all to you for the registry. Haven't forgotten. This year was hectic

Re: Cool find A12 Documents - 12/25/18 07:40 PM

The 'Special headers & Tag instructions' meant the headers at the top of the window sticker ( ship to & sold to addresses different) & that note with the name & the VIN for 'instructions'.

VIN engine code M, vs fender tag engine code E63
