70 440 HP block ??? - 09/22/09 01:09 AM

Were there any 440HP vehicles built at the Belivdere IL plant in 1970?

It appears they made C bodies there. Not sure what else. I am looking at an HP block and want to make sure it is legit. VIN # stamp on pan rail is OD22XXXX. Casting date of 10/69 and does have HP stamp on top pad.

The Dodge & Plymouth c-bodies were built at Belvidere in '70. A 440HP in one would be "rare".
It would include "U" code cop cars and 440+6 Sport Fury GTs & possibly a few others.

What's the engine assembly date on the pad with the F 440 HP?

It appears all the 0D22xxxx cars were assembled in late-March a month+ after that engine was assembled.

The VIN is 0D2200XX. Does this seem to be in line with your knowledge of the Belvidere produced cars to have the block a month + sooner than the SPD?

Since the Belvidere plant would not have the need for a large number of orange engines, some may have sat around for a longer period of time before being used VS. the other plants that built a larger quantity of HP engined (4bbl or 6bbl) B & E-bodies.

At least it is before - not after. Is the "STAMPING" in question? Can you post pics?
Is it complete? Does it have c-body manifolds and "187" oil pan? ...... or do you think someone added the "HP" in a prior use in a B or E-body? Is there any evidence of original orange paint?

I've seen many a TNT440 in New Yorkers and Chrysler 300s, not just cop cars.

but you missed the point ..... in '70 they didn't build Chryslers at Belvidere.
So, the engine isn't out of a 300, New Yorker or Newport. It is out of a Dodge Monaco/Polara or Plymouth Fury.

Please post a fender tag pic of a '70 Dodge or Plymouth c-body with a "U"-code (E86) 440HP 4bbl.
