Oranges in 69...

Oranges in 69... - 06/16/09 06:06 PM

Ok I know there is V2, and I have heard of special paint code 999 for Omaha Orange, but have only seen on a Road Runner.

Did Daytonas have any other oranges than V2?
This one appears to be painted Omaha type orange, but in the description it says it's Hemi Orange.

I've always seen V2 as reddish orange, not like EK2 orange for 1970.

It's about half way down the page:

That looks correct to me. V2 is a true orange. No reddish to it. R4 is an orangie red.
Also with red and orange the light plays a major roll in how the color looks in a picture.
This is R4

It does look a little EK2-ish in the pic but I know the car and it is V2. Light, camera etc.

I was hoping someone would chime in that knows the car.
That's the only V2 Daytona I have seen that looks more like EK2 though.

Since Gibson did the resto, I have to assume the paint is correct.
That's why I asked the question.
I prefer it to be more orange than red, like in those pics.

And is the official name in 69 "Hemi Orange" for the Dodge line up?

Actually - The owner has always said Gibson did the resto but I think Roger only did some detail stuff.

Yeah, I went back and reread that, and I think you're right.

Here's the Dodge color chart, and V2 looks a lot brighter than EK2 here. I always thought EK2 was the brighter of the two.

EK2 is a lighter and brighter orange than EV2
EV2 has a small amount of gold flake in it.
999 Omaha Orange is closer to the color Hemi engines are painted

EK2 has a small amount of metallic flake in it too, but less than EV2.

Learn something new every day. No idea there was metal flake in either of them.

EK2 always looked lighter to me, but for some reason in that color chart, it looks darker.

I painted my 69 bee Vitaman C orange, thinking it was available on Dodge cars in 1969 (I thought this was the code 99 found on my Dodge color charts).
After the work was done, I was told no Super Bees were actually painted this color.
Nevertheless, here it is:

Yes, the '69 factory documents make specific reference to "V2 Hemi Orange".

There are at least two known Daytonas with paint code 99 99, commonly referred to as Omaha Orange. Both of these cars, strangely enough, were ordered from the same dealership in Georgia.

There's also at least one '69 Charger 500 painted Omaha Orange too, and I think it's a 4-speed Hemicar too. That one I don't have any fender tag information or a VIN.

Thanks for the confirmation on the V2 name.

Very cool about the 99 code Daytonas out of Georgia, and the Charger as well...
