Body # stamping oddities - 06/19/08 12:58 AM

While surfing E-bay, I cam across a '70 Challenger RT project for sale and found this a little funny. The cowl was stamped three times by the assy line worker Reminds me that theses cars were built by humans that were probably bored out of their minds and not worried about future collectors and "experts"

I think two of those are "re-stamps"....if you notice the "3" on the top one is slightly higher and to the right of the center one,........any expert can see that, I wouldn't trust this one.......

I see four times on that one.

You can see other errors here;

Bill it was a joke on my part but you know an "expert" would claim re-stamp (which BTW Bill it is "re-stamped" three or four times ) and that they can see a difference in font. Here's my take; first day on this stamping job for someone, foreman tells him/her to practice and this is how you do it, now you try it. Or "Did you fix the stamper?" Don't know for sure let's give it a couple of tries on this panel "

I have seen it before on another car - seven times.

My best guesses in no particular order;

1. Stuck trigger on a pneumatic stamping tool.

2. The guy was trying to smash a bug or spider.

3. The assembly line stopped for some reason, and the stamper re-stamped the car every time his supervisor walked by to "look busy".
