Challenger wheel lip molding

Who sells the best Challenger wheel lip moldings?

Should any body colored wheel lip show by the tire next to the moldings, or do the moldings cover the entire wheel lip?

NOS ones are the best and seem to be everyware but they are $$$$ I have seen the Metro ones and they look OK but did not fit well on a friends 70 Challenger. I think I will just leave them off of my 71 Challenger until someone makes the corectly.

Unless you have a 100% rustfree 1/4's that have never had any work done to them, I think you'll find that all the reproductions and even NOS ones will give you fitment issues. It's not usually the trim, it's the 1/4's.

Personally, for the customer's cars that I've worked on, all which have had major 1/4 work...I prefer the cheaper ones available through DALE'S CUDA SHOP They are quite a bit thinner then originals but allow you to work them over a bit to fit the car better.

Generally the area of body colour next to the tire should be covered unless the 1/4 panels are aftermarket and were never trimmed properly.

My car has had the lower quarters replaced, and I intend to modify the wheel lip as neccesary to make the repro moldings fit. I just wanted to make sure I started with a good set.

FWIW, Metro has about one set out of every 50 returned for fitment issues. This is mostly due to the quarters as Alan pointed out.

I got mine from R/T Specialties. They needed a little work to fit but that seems to be par for the coarse. The bodyshop fit them to the new Goodmark quarters before paint.

Here's how mine look. Old Year One repro quarter skins & wheel lip molding. Should be trimmed before paint, yes?

Anyone have pics of how it's supposed to look?

Tavis,.....I looked at my 71 Challenger T/A's wheel trim,......I purchased this car in 1978, from the original owner with 54K miles, in 79-1980 it was transformed into a 340/6 4spd 71 T/A, (has 77K miles currently).....all the sheetmetal is factory original, as is all the chrome/SS trim, with the exception of the hood, and bumpers......the trim on the front fenders has perhaps an 1/8" inch of body lip/color showing pass the lip trim inside the fender, the rears however look just like your photo, a good 1/4" of lip/color showing past the trim inside the fender,....while I look at this and "squeem", it is originaly the way it should look,....however, my restorations over the years, I've mounted the trim, marked the excess, and removed it, looking for a ccleaner, more finished look,.....but I know some guys are still hung up on the factory "look"
