When did they start broadcast sheets in cars?

When did they start broadcast sheets in cars? - 03/12/24 09:26 PM

So I’m helping my friend sell his early production 1968 Coronet and it was built the first month of the start of the product line in 1967. Been asked multiple times for broadcast sheet, but searching the car has tuned up nothing. The seats were recovered back in 1980’s, so it would have been found then if it was in the car. My question is, when was the first month/year that they started to put broadcast sheets in cars? Also, if there anything out there on early production cars like this? The vin tag shows it was pretty early build.

Does the car have the fender tag, rad core or trunk lip s.o.#
Any original parts present? Many will have date stamps.
I can't help on when b/c sheets were first common.

My 1966 Satellite has one.

Doesn’t matter if early or late.

Maybe the pre-production cars didn’t typically get one. That’s like a handful or so cars per model?

Wouldn't it also depend on the assembly plant?

My '67 St. Louis GTX has a broadcast sheet. It is a different format and color than the later ones but it is a broadcast sheet.

The oldest I have seen (so far) are from the 1948 model year.

They were called 'Order Specification & Building Orders' back then.

Typical situation too, 4 found in one car & only one matched that car.

Google "Wishes on Wheels". Chrysler produced film of 1955 Plymouth manufacturing, and a fun watch regardless.
They show the use of broadcast sheets in several areas of asswmbly.

The broadcast sheet, and fender tags, were produced after the IBM TAB punch card,
was generated, at Chrysler headquarters, in Highland Park, and other offices.
My father spent his entire career, as a computer programmer, generating/processing IBM
cards, first starting in 1963 at Highland Park, then, was transferred to Hamtramyck, and finally ended up
at O.D.M.T.C. as shift manager.
