1969 Road Runner engine color - 03/07/24 04:06 PM

A friend of mine has a 69 383 Road Runner that we are trying to bring back to life. The engine is turquoise. Is that right or wrong? Or is it because it has air conditioning? I don't know much about restorations. Thank you.

Yes, a 383 super commando is painted turquoise on a 69 roadrunner with air-conditioning

Yes, turquoise when the car had AC - had the 330-HP rating instead of 335.

Great. That's what we were thinking but we really didn't know. Thanks to both of you.

Yep with the main difference being the cam and valve springs , the 330HP engine has the 383-2bbl/440 350HP cam instead of the 440 375 HP cam

It hadn't been started in 28 years. (I think it's the original engine.) At least we got it to turn over. But no fire. But we should be able to fix that. We'll keep working on it.

'69 should have VIN on a pad above the right oil pan rail.

FWIW, the 383s I've owned - I think 15 of 'em - have varied in power output, more than age or mileage would imply.
My '69 AC car ran stronger than a couple non-AC, and one tired '68 was surprisingly strong...

He also has a 70 Road Runner with a/c but the engine is orange. We are assuming that is correct.

I can't answer on the '70 RR 383 w/AC - my only '70 B was a Satellite wagon, 383 4-bbl, AC car - so engine was not orange.
If it's the original engine & has never been rebuilt or repainted, one could of course assume whatever color's on it is factory.
Whether that was an error or is correct is another kettle of fish.
A lot can happen in 50+ years - back in the day, lots of mods got done...I painted my 318 Swinger's grille like a GTS, for example.
And a guy I knew with a base '68 RR painted the lower bower body like a '69 GTX & added the '69 V21 hood stripes.
