correct radiator number - 01/22/24 02:55 PM

Looking at Galens white book I am confused. I have a 1970 r/t se challenger with a U code 440 and a/c. I thought 2998956 was correct but his book also list a 2998961. It has a automatic and is a LA built car. Thanks Guys.

The FSM shows the 956 as A/C with standard cooling, the 961 is maximum cooling...probably a thicker core.

I think it depends on the axle ratio. My 70 383 Challenger R/T SE automatic, 3.23 with a/c has the 961 radiator. I believe if you ordered a 383 and A36 axle package with 3.55s, with or without a/c, then you got the 956. Could you also get a 440 auto with 3.55s and a/c, or just 3.23s? As far as what's correct, I believe a 440 3.23 with a/c also got the 961. A 961 is a two row, and a 956 is a 3 row. For real world driving a 3 row is of course better, I'll be replacing the core in my 961 with a 3 row when the time comes.

It does, but to be fair he does list a disclaimer of sorts in his posts;

No broadcast sheet. Just the fender tag. Thanks for the reply, hope life has been good to you John.
