Argent silver paint. - 12/19/22 09:49 PM

Need to repaint a shaker bubble. Does anyone have a paint code for agent silver? Has anyone found a spray can color that is real close.
Ideas please.

Alltrim.com if he still carries it.
There's another guy, 8774paint1.com, that has it in rattle cans.
The alltrim stuff is the real deal, and the rattle cans are very close.

Argent as in Argentina, not agent as in insurance.

You need dark argent not light argent. There is a real difference.

So on a 70 challenger the bubble would be dark argent not the bright silver?

Yes the bright silver is incorrect. This is a great article about the correct finish.

That article is wrong, I bought a 1970 Cuda shaker assembly that came on a 1970 Cuda 440 six pack car that was silver for my Barracuda that I was preparing to race in NHRA stock in 1973. Mine was not the only car raced in NHRA back then that had the silver shaker on the 1970 Cuda and Challengers shruggy
The darker silver argent came out in late 1970 and was stock on the 1971 cars.

To come out and say the article is wrong without any proof other than your recollection is pretty bold. So, you bought a shaker from someone three years after the part came out and it could have been painted before you got it is your proof for proclaiming it is wrong. I might give credence to that if you owned the car originally from the factory. That article is based on much research and according to Frank Badalson and Roger Gibson and Dave Wise they were dark argent in 70. The 71 shakers were black. There are always exceptions to everything Mopar but the consensus of everyone who 's life is dedicated to these cars is they were dark argent. So, to the original poster, unless you have an unmolested car you have owned from new and it is light argent, the consensus in the hobby is to paint it dark argent.

Cab Burge I would love to see any documentation, factory documents or original pictures, that you have to prove the article wrong. We are all interested in finding out the provable facts about these cars
Please educate us. Thanks.

Off topic a bit, is the dark argent mentioned here the same as would be on the 67 GTX trunk tail panel?

Same texture, etc.?

I don’t have a correct 67 GTX panel, what I have is the 67 Satellite panel which is the same except the darker argent and deep maroon strips.
I need to paint my panel to match that of the GTX. Here is one off the net.

Re: Agent silver paint. - 12/28/22 03:45 AM

How many original Mopar muscle cars have you owned and driven?
The E body muscle cars were real tire spinners in stock form, rant
They were not near as good as the Mustangs and Camaro on all out performance, hence Mustangs and Camaro having a lot more survivors available still.
As far as the argument among " Muscle car collectors" on the two different colors of the original Argent paint on Mopar car parts it is never ending, is it puke
Call Galen and ask him about this, please scope twocents

Re: Agent silver paint. - 12/28/22 05:12 PM

I graduated High school in 1971. So at least 20 original Mopars that I can recall. I even washed cars at a Moar dealership so I guarantee I have seen more original Mopar than you ever could. Over the years I have owned more than 50. I drag raced all through the 70's and 80's and I have been an O.E. Judge at the Mopar Nats for over 15 years. So, I am pretty sure I know what I am talking about.

By the way Galen hasn't been around for years, even though in his day he did make a major contribution to hobby. I still use his white books.
Sorry did I miss you providing any documentation for your "That article is wrong". I didn't think so. tsk

That is good to know Tommy. I bought Franks last pint of dark argent from him. I will be sending customers your way. Do you have Organisol?

Re: Agent silver paint. - 12/30/22 08:35 PM

I bought up a few cans of Krylon Fusion #2521 rattle can paint called “Graphite” based on a recommendation years ago. I think I have 4-5 cans left and I know they were not cheap. A mopar shop had them. This past summer I used a can on my extra 67 GTX panel to see if the paint was still good. I think it came out pretty good. Has a nice dark sparkle to it. Might be worth trying to find a can or two, I know they are obsolete now but maybe some place has them on the shelf or I may let a can or two go…I don’t really paint much anymore. Pics don’t really show the glitter effect well.
