FC7 Plum Crazy

Dale have you been in touch with any of the Edmonton guys who track the 71 340 Darts? If not, e-mail me at stwheels@shaw.ca and I'll get you some contact info.

I thought they were all body colour. I removed a bit of the creme colour off of mine and there is no signs of any other colour under the creme. I will repaint in plum crazy though. thanks

hey Doug, I got all of the 71 info and registry from Dan in Edmonton years ago. A fellow (Cliff) from Calgary and myself have a registry going for the 71 340 cars and the 72's. Also Adam has a included the Canadian cars in his Swinger registry. thanks

Yep it should be Purple. Looks like whoever painted the car stripped the tag too.

Very few of those cars had any options and yours is a pretty plain Jane example. Except the 340 and the color of course !

Yeah, Dan is the person who kinda discovered that these cars were even built.

I remember the day he called me to go look at a car he was all pumped up about but he wouldn't tell me what it was. As he and I were really into E-bodys at the time I just assumed thats what we'd be looking at. Boy was I ever surprised! An A-body???? [Edited by Moparts - Keep it clean]? He just told me to check the fender tag and see if I noticed anything interesting. Well not being an A-body guy I didn't think anything of the 340 code as I thought they built millions of 340 A-bodys every year till 74.

He ended up purchasing the car (I think it was the Orange and Black one) and gave me a history lesson about the 340 swingers. He owned a couple more over the years (a Gunmetal and an FJ6 car I think) but sold them all a while back.

Derek Spraakman has a Purple one here in Edmonton still.I think I have a picture of it somewhere on the computer.

I read about the 71 340 cars years ago from a paper Dan wrote, I then seen mine on the bargin finder paper in Edmonton. I have family there so they went and checked it out and bought it. Then I started to chat with Dan and he said he was getting away from the A body's and going back to the e or b bodys (don't remember) and offered for me to purchase his research and a 71 slant parts car. I did and have being restoring mine ever since. There are around 21 71 remaining that we know about. Mine is a crestview car so it has the H2XW interior and the trim package. The crosstown cars were all plain jane's, some did not even get the scoops. The auto cars did not get the boxed in front leaf mounts. Mine has front disc's but not sure if any others had that option. But a few more thousand hours and agzillion dollars and mine will be done:).

The tag appears not to have a crease from it being bent, would that mean it was hanging somewhere during body (colour) painting????? What assembly plant was this car built in....just curious?

Mike, "R" is the Windsor plant and their tags are not creased like some other plants.

Windsor & it does have a bend. Not all tags were bent far enough to make an actual crease.
