road wheel insert color and rear hoop color - 05/01/20 01:02 AM
I seem to recall the inserts on the Road Wheels (Magnum 500) had a different sheen black for the inserts than what was on the black hoop part of the rim. Was the inserts a satin or semi gloss and the hoop part was a cheap gloss black? Just trying to get my rims a little nicer during this COVID crap since there are now shows going on. Car in question is a 69 Roadrunner. I also found some red drips of paint on the rear part of the hoop part of the rims.

I would think the barrels were already painted, and the pre-painted chrome centers welded to them.
So, 2 different kinds of paint - the barrels being the cheap deal - seems likely.
I don't have any handy to verify, sold my last original '69 many years ago.
Center blackouts were a semi-gloss (aka satin).
The red drips on the backside could be from the red paint they put on the face of the brake drum for road-wheel cars.
My originals also had brushed trim rings, not the polished ones that you see nowadays.
