FY1 accurate color match - 03/03/20 11:33 PM

Has anybody got a formula they know is right, paint store used the gun and it is way off, more like a new challenger.

PPG changed their yellow toners on the base clear stuff so anything with yellow in it might be off. Maybe have them mix up a small amount of DCC single stage and use that as a guide to tint the base color?

Way off in what direction?

I've heard from my old painter that the new Axalta gun ends up with a redder formula on color scans.

Tried to buy some dcc today, ppg dealer said he could only mix it in shopline base clear, no others now in ppg line, cheap only $241 a gallon. I got sample for free, have not tried it yet, cheap price worries me.

Bolder yellow, less of the whitish washed out look factory fy1 was in daylight. I bought some axalta chroma premier, mixed from formula, no gun, it is way closer. Will agree the new axalta gun is off towards orange-red, at least on this color.

"Bolder" is hard to interpret, but the end color will of course be the result of the toners used to make that color; if you have the formula that was used, you can back off that toner.
Look at what's called a "color wheel" and the toners that make up the color you sprayed, that should get you what you need.
Some guys will add an opposing toner, but that can also get you lost.
I would suspect there's some white, orange, and/or red in the formula.

Bolder meaning more like the new challenger yellow. Shot the ppg, shot that with axalta gun, mixed that, pretty happy with that it is real close. It has brite yellow, yellow, white, red oxide, and black. Looks good inside, outside need to look at it at night, but pretty sure going to use this. Shot on white underbase. I now know why every yellow car looks different. Anyway, thanks for the help.
