E-Body Firewall Sealant ??? - 06/08/08 09:45 PM

I have seen on numberous original, mostly '70 e-body,some type of black sealant that was used primarily around the throttle cable and around the manual washer hose plug on the firewall. It was applied after these 2 parts were installed. At first I thought it was simular to the trunk/floor pan seam sealer but now I have seen a few that actually shows runs/drips in the black which of course I would think the seam sealer would be to thick to run.Anybody know what they originally used?

Joe-Did the primer act as a sealer or what was the purpose??Also was it brushed on or sprayed?

It was applied after the cable was installed. It was sprayed, most likely it was to provide a better seal between the engine compartment and the cabin.

Jim - My T/A had it, my Hemi, 340-4 and 383 cars did not.
