Bumper bracket finish

Bumper bracket finish - 02/04/19 09:07 PM

I had these front bumper brackets from my '72 Duster soda blasted and then tumbled. They came out looking like brand new stampings. I was going to powder coat them black but now I'm wondering about hitting them with clear. What is the correct finish for them if I want to go the resto route? Is it a flat or medium flat black?

Originally they were probably dipped in "gloss" black paint. The paint was cheap and didn't have the full gloss that we see today. Semi-gloss is probably close.

Andy. soda leaves a residue that is hard to remove. if you dont remove it paint adhesion issue will happen. I use a product called hold tight 102 to remove residue but lately most of the time with a part like that i will quickly profile it with a super fine glass that removes all the rest of the residue plus gives the profile you need for paint.
weird why they would soda blast it though.

Andy said the parts were tumbled after blasting. Wouldn't that have removed any residue?

Do you have a tumbler that big or did you send them to a company to have done?

most likely would have taken it off but depending on the size of the media in the tumbler i would be careful. soda sticks amazingly well.
