70 A-Body 4-Spd Reverse Lockout Linkage ID/Confirmation

70 A-Body 4-Spd Reverse Lockout Linkage ID/Confirmation - 01/19/19 10:35 PM

I think I have some reverse lockout components for 70 A-body. Any experts here able to confirm? I didn't find much online. Brewer's lists one of the linkage rods, but doesn't show the pivot assembly.

Not sure about that small rod in the second pic. Could be unrelated.

Thanks!

Reverse lockout would be for a 3 or 4-speed manual with floor shift.

Yours looks like it may be for an automatic - http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/images/serviceHighlights/70%20sh%20261.jpg

Thanks Barry. Do you have a diagram of the manual trans set up? I am wondering if it uses the same torque shaft.

I have a couple photos of the one in my 1970 3-speed stick shift 318 car & it different than yours.

It is not easy to get a good photo of one in the car though......

I believe there are three 1970 A-body linkages.
The are:
4-speed/3-speed
Auto-floor shift
Auto-column shift

Should be the same for B,C and E body's.

I’ve dealt with b and e manual trans lockouts and all of them have an adjustment in the torque shaft. Your does not, so it looks to me to be the auto lockout.

Here's a picture of the correct 1970 A body 4-speed interlock. It's off my 1970 Plymouth 340 Duster. Very difficult to find em--trust me!
Hope it helps.

Thanks for the pics Smuggler. I need to dig a little more to see if I can come up with either linkage rod. Any chance you can post some close up pics and measurements?

The lower rod shown on Brewer’s site looks a bit different.

Yes the Brewers rod is different but I think it will work. I will ask my buddy he bought one from them.

Unfortunately, I dont have a shot of the column rod but I will try to take one and post when I can. Here is a shot of the reverse rod as installed in the car.

Thanks Smuggler!. Based on your pics and Barry’s scan of the FSM, it looks to me like I have parts of a column shift auto lock out. Understanding that were three different setups (manual trans, auto-column, and auto-console) is it likely that the torque shaft was common to all three types and only the upper and lower rods were different?

Also, any input on WIW? I can’t find any past sales online.

So there are three different torque shafts? I’m not seeing much difference between the one I have and the pics Smuggler posted. Anyone have the part numbers?
