Body Plug Retainer, 70 Cuda - 01/13/19 07:18 PM

In a 1970 Cuda, rear floor pan, closest to the tunnel, is a metal (OD Green Chromate) body plug with an orange rubber gasket. This plug is held into place by a flat sheet speed nut, 10-24 (as stamped on it), with turned down corners, 1.3” X 1/2” X .022 THK. As seen in the photo one of mine is cracked. I’ve searched all over locally with no luck, scoured the internet and managed to find a company that makes one, problem is they don’t stock them and asked how many thousands I’d like to buy. I even went to the junk yard and due To various factors, to include almost no e-bodies, turned up empty pockets. Don’t get me wrong, speed nuts are available, the issue is the length.

So the question is where do you get one?
If nowhere, anyone have one from a stripped car they won’t be using?
Is this unique to Cudas?

I’m sure some may say throw a rubber body plug in it but I can’t do that

This is the type used on AARs & T/As due to the extra heat from the side exit exhaust under that section of rear floor.

I could do that but this is really thin spring steel, likely become very brittle after welding, this may be a last resort

Well that would explain my lack of ability to find one in the junkyard, unsure why that didn’t cross my mind.

Ive seen that plug used on other E bodies in the floorpan, not just T/A's and AAR's
