Is that Bondo in the roof rail channel?? - 12/03/18 01:34 AM

Getting ready to put the new vinyl top on the 69 Charger. It looks like bondo in the window channel drip rail...and its all cracked up and missing chunks. Is that just Bondo that I need to replace, or should I just remove it all and clean up the drip rail? If I remove it, will the vinyl top look to sit down too far in the channel and not look right? Hope to hear what you did when replacing your top. Thanks!

It should be body seam sealer.

I believe you are correct....it just looks like old bondo due to age? I am going to the parts store now to get sealer....Thanks!

Give it some time to dry and shrink down before installing the top.

There are some two-part catalyzed seam sealers available now. They may help expedite your vinyl install,Lord Fusor is one manufacturer.Look at #122EZ in the list,i couldn't copy the individual part description for some reason.

A little advice if you are asking:

RTS runner has the right Idea here. I have been a bodyman most of my life and here it what I would do:

Remove all of the old seam sealer

Clean up any rust in the area

Apply a 2K seam sealer. I prefer the 3M Impact Resistant Structural Adhesive IRSA for 3 reasons.

1. It is epoxy based and will work as good or better as epoxy primer

2. It has a long work time to tool it and let it flow out.

3. It changes color when curing so you know the stuff is ready to go.

Hope this helps. By the way, IRSA is a structural adhesive that works great as a seam sealer too.

Stupid question, do you stuff the vinyl top into the adhesive before it sets up or do you let it set up and then glue the top down?
