727 case restoration

I am ready to rebuild and restore my 727 what is every one doing to make the case and tail look new? Or is there a link to go to if this has been talked about before? THANKS MOPARTS

Have you tried brushing Naval Jelly on it? It cleans aluminum up really, really well and will leave it looking nice and fresh cast. Then you could apply some RPM to it to seal up the pores so it doesn't oxidize.

Bead Blast it and shoot it with as cast Aluim Spray.

If not painted it will quickly oxidize and look terrible. I guess that is the correct look. LOL. I bead blasted mine and painted with Eastwoods Aluma Blast paint. Still looks good many years later.

I used a combination of Eastwood's Alumablast and their Titanium spray. To me the Alumablast is too intense silvery. The Titanium paint is slightly deeper silver. Doing a light coat over a wet coat of Alumablast gave to me the closest match to natural cast aluminum that has been sitting exposed.

Or you can simply clean it as best you can (method of choice) and protect it with Gibbs Lubricant. This eliminates the paint for a more natural look

i media blast for a living, couple years ago i bought a vapor blast cabinet that works well for aluminum. i have done a few transmissions with good results. its slightly brighter than OE but will fade over time. The finished surface is not open like a fractured abrasive will do so it will not oxidize over time. Not saying this is the best way as the keyboard experts will chime in that is some how wrong but one option for you if you have anyone local to you with a set up. You can google or you tube search for examples

I’m completely behind you and agree the process produces outstanding results. I’d have done this if I could have found a local with a cabinet large enough. Even looked into buying a cabinet but found these are wildly expensive vs a traditional blast box.

The only other thing to consider is that before blasting the case the trans needs to be stripped, where cleaning and protecting can be easily accomplished without gutting the trans.
