A12 Butterscotch question

A12 Butterscotch question - 11/07/18 01:00 PM

Was it only available on the A12 for 1969? I saw someone posted on facebook it was an A12 only color for 69. They also said F6 and Ralleye Green were the same, so not sure if it's true or not. Sparked my curiosity.

Butterscotch was available on the 69 Dart also. F6 and Ralley Green are not the same.

I've seen Butterscotch on plain Road Runners so the answer is no.

I think you misunderstood the answer to the F6/97 being the same colour. He was agreeing with you that they are different.

As for the Butterscotch/Bahama Yellow...he said the Butterscotch (Dodge Colour) was only available on A12 Super Bees (although I too have seen it on a 1969 Dart. I believe it was a Swinger 340 but I can't remember where I saved it on my computer lol) That could be another great topic to see if someone has the pics to back up a non A12 Bee with Code 96 Butterscotch paint.

Besides Road Runners what other Plymouths have you seen Bahama Yellow?

Re: A12 Butterscotch question - 11/07/18 08:45 PM

Paint code 96 is Butterscotch on a Super Bee. I don't think you will find 96 on other Dodges.

If the Dart pictured is car 3443**, it codes 99 NOT 96. Therefore it may be Butterscotch in color but it does not code 96. It codes for special order paint. If the color was released for Darts, one would expect to fine examples pop up now and then.

96 on a Plymouth is Bahama Yellow. The only 69 Plymouths I've seen that code 96 are Road Runners.

I've seen one 69 GTX that codes 97. Other than that, all I've seen are Road Runners.

F6 was released in early of December 1968 in the Dodge line up. You can find F6 on Darts, Chargers, Super Bees, etc.

Re: A12 Butterscotch question - 11/08/18 05:48 PM

We had an EL5 383 69 Road Runner here in CT.

The cool thing about EL5/Butterscotch is that is came back as a high impact paint offering in 1971.

There is a 69 charger RT/SE up here that is butterscotch. I have been the last 15 years trying to buy it... Also a sunroof car!

There is a Butterscotch 69' Road Runner for sale locally here to us. Man, I can't believe how much I like it when I see it just because it is different.

Not sure if this is the original color and not sure if it even is Butterscotch? Looks a little too yellow.

Re: A12 Butterscotch question - 11/09/18 05:07 AM

The story the RR owner told me was he was in Vietnam and wrote a letter to his mom and dad that he wanted them to order the RR and that he would send them the deposit so it would be there when he returned from Vietnam soon. Mom and dad did as he requested with the options and color list he had mailed to them. He said that he immediately received a letter from his parents saying the dealership would not order the RR in the color, interior and vinyl roof without double the deposit and the deposit would not be refundable! They said the color combo was so odd that they were sure they would be stuck with it and felt that once he saw it he would back out of buying the car......... When I saw it I thought it was one of the coolest RR's I have seen because it is so unique.....good chance it's a very, very low build RR and dare I say a 1 of...........He thought it strange that I was talking photos of the hood lock bezels and walked up and asked me why? I said besides the color combo those are some really cool hood locks, pretty discrete.....then the whole story about the deposit and order.

Checkout the color matched door lock knobs wink

Thanks for the story Mike. Do you know what happened to the Butterscotch A12 Bee with the red stripe that was for sale some years ago? Somehow I really liked that odd combo. Was tan interior 4-speed too, iirc.

Re: A12 Butterscotch question - 11/09/18 06:51 PM

Friend of mine owned a 1969 RT Coronet 440 four speed Dana in this color. I used to have pictures of the car but once he sold it I ended up giving the new owner all my pictures. It was bought new in the USA I think Ohio and brought to Ontario, Canada about 25 years ago and might be still in Canada.

So what you are saying is that Plymouth used the 96 code and Dodge would have used the 99 code. Is that correct?

Because I encountered a 69 Charger 383 4 speed that was this color back in 1981

96 is Butterscotch, 99 is special order and could be Butterscotch or any other special order color. Butterscotch is Dodge, Bahama Yellow is Plymouth.

Sorry - I should have said "So a non-Superbee Dodge would have used a 99 paint code?"
