15x7 steel wheel options

15x7 steel wheel options - 10/04/18 08:56 PM

I'm thinking of getting a set of Steel wheels (2998450s) for my T/A since I learned they were original on the car. I always liked them on my old red T/A.

I see Tony sells repos for $1k a set. But I see there are other companies who have them for less money. I don't really care about the part numbers or date codes but I do want them to look correct and hold the hub cap and trim ring and show the proper gap. Any thoughts on the competitors compared to Tony's wheels? Thanks!

Why would you not want to support Tony and his effort to get these things reproduced?

I don't know what the other guys wheels look like but Tony's are very close to the real deal.

Something else could stick out like a sore thumb.

It's not that I don't want to support him. That quality wheel is not exactly what I'm looking for. My car is a driver.

These wheels are less $108 each. Are they the same minus the numbers? Thx

Those do not have the distinct 450 look with the wide band in the outer rim, but with the trim ring on you can't see it anyway.

You get what you pay for. You already know the answer. The parameters you list in your first post tell you what wheel to buy.

If your gonna run a trim ring and hubcap on a driver you would be a fool to spend over twice the money for something you don't see. 9 out of ten guys walking by wouldn't know the difference.

Who has excess?

Never met him

Still I would spend extra for quality

Actually since I am a purist I would only run an original wheel - even on a driver

But that's just me

I can understand this, but if it is a real TA it needs real parts IMO. If you can't afford real parts get the best repo available.

If it's a Clown car then go ahead and get Clown parts because no one cares

That being the case, the late 70's Diplomat/Grand Fury and LeBaron used a 15x7 wheel, (bottom two) with cap and trim ring,as said most wouldn't know the difference ,depends on what you want.

Wise words and what I was looking for.

Thanks for the thoughts.

It is a real T/A, not matching numbers, a driver, not a clown car.

Didn't really get an answer to your question.

Nothing else is really close to original except Tony's.

I did. Others have stated that there are differences with the alternatives but nothing you can see with the cap and trim ring installed. I still may go the Tony's route but I have to think about it. Again, thanks for the thoughts.

Jeff why not go used and save even more money?

I have two 15x7 wheels part number 4117054 that probably came on a 79 van or something.

I fitted the trim ring and center cap - they fit perfect. Once the trim ring is on you can't tell.

It would cost more in shipping then what I would want for the rims. You just need too find two more

Re: 15x7 steel wheel options - 10/06/18 04:20 AM

On the later wheels , the 15 x 7 ralley wheel trim ring does not fit correctly.
The center part of a 450 wheel is actually a 14 inch wheel center in a 15 inch ralley wheel band. So the ralley wheel trim ring fits the ralley wheel band correctly.

Later 15 steel wheel bands are 13.25 inside.
The 15 inch ralley wheel band is 12.25 inside.

So there is no way it looks right or fits right.

That's why the wheels are so special.

Also I sell the same 450 wheels as Tony , for the same price.

I have the cheap wheel vintiques 15x7 steelies. Compared to my factory 15x6 steelies, they aren't a crisp stamping. They also won't hold the hubcaps tight enough, they stay on when sitting still, but any driving is going to throw them off. My next set is going to be from Tony's. I've put 8k miles on them with no other complaints.

Duster 2, I saw your post after posting mine, I didn't realize you sold the newer repop as well. What town are you close to in Indiana? I'd love to take a look at those wheels if I ever have a free day again.
