Instrument panel rework by Redline - 10/01/18 08:33 PM

Has anyone had their gauge panel reworked by Redline? I'm thinking of sending my '65 Coronet panel in so I can convert the ammeter to a voltmeter. That is a standard deal for them. I'd also like to get rid of the oil pressure warning light and convert it to an actual oil pressure gauge. I think that will be more involved. Anyone done this with their panel?

On the later 68/69 Bs, there was an oil-pressure gauge available - I had one. I think it was cop or taxi stuff, never seen one on a "regular" RR/GTX.
So, if one existed for '65 Coronet, that'll help. Otherwise, the packaging & needle sweep using an aftermarket gauge could be a real dilemma.

There wasn't an oil pressure gauge option in '65 and the housing isn't designed for a gauge. It has a big hump inside that holds the idiot light. Redline said they could cut the housing away and fabricate a bracket to hold an oil pressure gauge. The guy I talked to said they had done it before but that it would be an expensive conversion due to all of the custom fab work. I'm thinking I'll just have them do the standard rebuild work and live with the idiot light. The EFI system has oil pressure on the screen so I don't really need it in the dash. Here is an inside shot of one of my spare instrument panels. You can see the bump in the housing for the oil light. All of that would need to be cut away to put a gauge in there.

Not sure if they are an exact fit, but have you thought of using a 64 or 65 plymouth cluster instead? More holes and looks easier to modify.

You're not exactly stock so not sure how tied you are to the stock cluster...

Interesting idea but I don't have any Ply clusters on hand. I have 3 of the Coronet clusters so I think I'll work with what I have rather than try to find something else. I'm sure it would cost a bunch to find a Ply cluster in nice shape and I'm not sure it would work anyway.

I talked to Shannon at Redline and he said they can do the oil pressure conversion. They modify the housing, add a small oil pressure gauge and build the artwork so it matches the gas gauge artwork. I think I'm going to go for it.

They'll also rebuild the speedo, convert the ammeter to a voltmeter, do a quartz conversion for the clock and clean everything. Seems like a nice winter project.

Think about this option. Marshall Instruments has a oil pressure gauge that has a programable high and low warning output. You can set what pressure you want for the low warning and run a wire to the idiot light to get your attention and then look at the gauge, or put the gauge out of sight if you want.

Could potentially design and 3D print a housing that would fit the oil gage and bolt to the cluster.

Did they tell you what it'll cost?

Yeah it will be expensive but I don't really care. It is a clean way to solve the problem and it makes the car more unique.

I'd leave the oil pressure light in place. A red warning light catches your attention.

I have a Holley EFI system in the car so I can program warning limits into the computer display.
