Are the calipers all the same? what about the combination valve?

what's the correct master cylinder casting number for a '71 with manual disc brakes?

Jim Lusk has stated there are couple of differences with the early ones.

Quote:
There are two differences, but only one is the caliper itself (the other is the retainer, one large retainer on early models and two smaller ones on later). The major difference is the dust seal and how it attaches. Early calipers have a steel ring that the seal goes around (the seal can be installed after the piston) while the later has another groove cut into the cylinder. This is where rebuild kits are critical. Some kits have four of each style while some only have the early seal. This is all because that seal is the same as the 65-67 Mustang.

Here's direct to a picture of the combo valve:
page 8, 1970 Master Technicians Conference Brake Hydraulics
1970 can get confusing with all the variations.
The illustration also shows the metering valve, which was not used with the a-body K-H fixed caliper system. On the next page is a chart that indicates which disk brake systems got the metering valve. (The metering valve is to create a slight delay on the front brakes)
1972 illustration is clearer:

Same combo valve for A-body disks as '71 and '70.

Those booklets explains all of the valves and the 1970 booklet has a list of master cylinders on the back.

P.S. Two good resources for factory info not in your service manual or parts book:
