AMD Bumper Fit and Quality?

AMD Bumper Fit and Quality? - 03/30/18 12:35 AM

Fella in Michigan has a reproduction 70 Roadrunner rear bumper from AMD for sale. Looking for feedback on repo bumpers from AMD concerning fit and chrome quality. Anyone have any issues with these? I would especially wonder about actual fit? I'm assuming they are made in Taiwan, but not positive.

Some have had concerns or issues with fit or finish, some have had great results, from my personal experience, I've had no fitment issues that couldn't be resolved, minor in nature if any at all, I have had no issues with any of the finishes as long as your looking for an OEM example of chrome, most are spoiled looking at triple chromed (copper/nickle/chromium) "show" bumpers over the years, the AMD finish is the same as stock OEM finish, nickle/chromium, B body AMD bumpers seem relativity sound as far as fit/finish, the E bodies are somewhat prone to fitment issues

I have bought reproduction bumpers for two vehicles (67 Mustang & 80 Silverado stepside) and the chrome is average to good and basically fine for a daily driver. They look ok until you put them next to a rechromed bumper that cost $400+ to replate.

Wasn't someone selling aftermarket bumpers that were rechromed in the USA, which were supposed to be pretty nice?

I presume the front bumper on my GTX is an aftermarket part from the late 90's or early 2000's. It's straight, but the chrome is not that good.

The rear bumper is a rechromed factory part. The chrome is very nice but they skipped repairing one dent/low spot which would have made it a pretty close to show quality.

I'm probably going to sell both bumpers at the swap meet next week and take a chance on some aftermarket bumpers. There is no one local to rechrome anything so I don't have many options.

Rockauto sells goodmarks that say they are reconditioned, premium quality USA chrome.

Thanks all for the feedback. I decided to have my original bumper re-chromed. I don't really do car shows to care much about a piece nicer than original chrome wise. The risk in this situation is if I buy this from the individual and it doesn't fit, I can't just return it to AMD. He's had this for 5 years. Cost is $275. Buying a new one would still had been better from an insurance stand point I think. Cost vs risk just too much for me. I can pass on the owner info if someone would want to check it out. It's advertised on Craigslist.

The fitment is not bad ,the finish is nice But the waves in the chrome are terrible. I would not use one on a real nice car. The original factory ones were a LOT nicer then these AMD ones.

You can't paint all AMD bumpers with "one brush"...I'm sure there's some that can't past the muster, I've used a few AMD bumpers for customers builds, and for the most part have been fortunate to have received some rather nice pieces...here's my Daytona's bumper, it was actually a very nice piece, needing no tweaks to install, and very straight on the finish with barely no noticeable flaws

My 70 front bumper fit awesome and I was surprised with the good finish of the chrome. I still have my original and plan on sending it off for a back up.

I bought AMD bumpers in 2012. They fit great, still look like I just got them. Might not be good enough for a show car, but they look great next to my new paint. Got them thru Jeff at 521.
