68 Dart Underhood questions: neutral safety wire & body plug

Hello -

This pic is from 2005, when I was taking the car apart. It looks MUCH nicer now, but the years have added to my confusion. I will hold the new photos until more complete

The car was missing the motor but trans was there. The single wire neutral safety switch wire was chopped off at the end, looks like it was pinched. Anyway, how is this wire routed? Does it drop off the right most firewall tab then straight down (highlighted in red)m then over the top of the trans to the switch?
Also there is a retaining tab also circled in red, where does this go, on bellhousing bolt?

Then on the other side of the firewall (blue circle), the grommet that plugs the manual washer hole (mine has power), is this a plastic or rubber plug? Not sure why, but mine was gone when I got the car. I have the body plug kit, but non fit this correctly. I measure a 1-3/8" hole. I have 1-1/4" and 1-1/2" in the kit, in plastic.

Answered one of my own questions. I guess this one is not in the standard body plug kits:

Thanks for the tip. I need that 1-3/8" cap plug for my '69 with power washer. Sorry, can't help with the wire - mine is 4-speed.

I thought the neutral safety switch wire was on the drivers side, can't remember it being on the passenger going down from the bulkhead connector. What engine/trans combo?

The single pole neutral safety switch wire is located on the driver's side and runs next to the torsion bar back to the transmission.

383-auto. Mine is a pretty early October 1967 build, so maybe it has closer to a '67 routing? I do have some '67 parts on my car I found.

If anyone can confirm would be appreciated. Years back I bought a b-body repro wire, since I never could find an a-body one. I figured it would be close. The b-body wire is ridiculously short, probably 15". What is left of my wire is like 30". My wire appears to be original based on the markings on the insulation and gauge.

In this photo the wiring has not been touched yet. Motor was yanked by who knows who, but I doubt they would take the time to route across the firewall to where is it in the photo. From where my wire is chopped off, it lines up to being crushed between the trans and the sharp body seam in the doghouse.

If it runs down by the drivers side torsion bar, would like to see that routing and how it is retained, as I thought it is held on the bellhousing by that clip/tab shown in the pic and in this link:

Would like to get settled before I get the motor and trans in, while I have more room to roam around.

Hello again. Answered my own question on the wire routing by digging into old photos. Been so long (3/2005), I forgot what things looked like and forgot that the part of the wire to the switch was still on the trans before it went to the rebuilder. I guess he tossed it.
Attached is a photo of the trans after it came out. You can see the wire running up the back of the trans to the top of the bellhousing. You can also see a faint dirt line where it was laying on the trans.
So it appears the neutral safety wire does run along the firewall and down the top of the trans. What I dont see is the tab to hold the wire on the tailshaft of the trans. But as seen in my original posted photo the bellhousing tab is dangling from the old wire on the firewall.

The neutral safety switch wire goes to the ground terminal on the starter relay, no reason to be on the top of the transmission since it runs on the
drivers side inner fender until it reaches the stater relay. look up the service manual for 68 darts and the wiring diagram will confirm this. My wire runs along side the speedometer cable in the same clips until it gets to the brake line distribution block then runs up to the rest of the wiring harness until it reaches the starter relay. I'm not saying mine is 100% correct, but it's been that way since I bought it in 1990...

So from the clip that holds the speedo cable to the switch, it just hangs? I would think with exhaust and other linkages around this would not be wise. Plus my wire would be extremely long routing this way, I started doing this, which is what had me scratching my head wondering where to put the slack.
With my recently discovered photo I will route the same way again. Always interesting how these cars were built.

My ebody is almost the same, runs along the firewall to the right passenger side transmission bellhousing p clamp down across the trans back on the left side to a p clamp on the tail housing then to the switch..

From the transmission to the speedometer cable clip is only a few inches, at least on my car it is. Why the factory would run it to the passenger side of the firewall and then back over to the drivers side to the starter relay is a mystery to me. It would take a wire at least 8-9 feet long to route it that way. Maybe they did though, but my 68 isn't ran that way.
