Who sells the most accurate '70 Challenger trunk/qtr trim?

Who sells the most accurate '70 Challenger trunk/qtr trim? - 12/09/17 10:12 PM

Are there more than one manufacturer/vendor for the 1970 Challenger trunk and rear quarter moldings?

I purchased a set through AMD (I think) and they do not fit well at all. I have one of the original quarter molding pieces and it fits great.

Is there a vendor/manufacturer that sells a more accurate reproduction?

Thanks!

Best bet is to find originals and send off for repair/polish and anodizing

if u are not happy with AMD - not much else worth anything.

there are subtle differences between repro and 70 only originals.
And the differences though small are noticeable.

If you are looking for exact details then fixed up originals are the best choice - even though its expensive to go this route.

My 2 cents.

I agree that NOS or restored originals would probably be the best bet but I am in a bit of a time crunch.

I see that PG Classics sells a set which looks to be of different origin than the ones that I purchased.

Does anyone have any experience with the PG Classics trim?

Thanks!

Finding these NOS is near impossible

Your best bet is the call the suppliers/vendors and see who's selling what mfg (as there were 3 mfg's making these at one time) contact YO, OER, PG Classics, Dales Cuda Shop, etc, you may end up buying 2 or more different mfg's components plus determine what mfg's components you have to avoid repeat purchases to get the set or desired fitting your trying to achieve

That is probably what I will end up doing. I will get on the phone tomorrow and see what's out there.

I am doing the final fitting on my new quarter panels and am getting very close to welding them on. I just want to make sure that these quarters are positioned/fitted perfectly prior to firing up the welder.

I just talked to a friend here locally who has a '70 Challenger with original trim and quarters. He said I could take the trim off of his car to use for the fitment process on my car but I just want to explore all options before I take him up on his offer.

I bought a set of Metro '70 Challenger rear trim years ago I thought was pretty decent.
I recall Metro had a fire and disappeared after that. Did anyone end up with their tooling?
I had a used set restored for my T/A and it came out beautiful. drool

Same here, I bought the Metro pieces, fit was very nice, and yes Metro had a fire that destroyed their shop/tooling, they did however get back up and running over the years and made some nice repro components, unfortunately the "Mopar" resto market wasn't profitable for them, so they sold off the tooling, went back to making skateboards and their components

Dave at Roseville moparts. com purchased some of the components/tooling rights and offers some of the Metro line, so the OP might consider Roseville as a possible contact

You might be right! I have another reproduction set coming from another vendor right now. We will see how well they fit.

You may be better off with factory pieces. I straightened and buffed my original pieces because the aftermarket stuff wasn't shiny enough and none of the details were crisp. I didn't re-anodize mine, a once over yearly with never dull keeps them the way I like them. There also is some room to tweek the mouldings for minor adjustments.
