2863215 Fan Blade Ink Stamp vs Metal Stamped Part Number

2863215 Fan Blade Ink Stamp vs Metal Stamped Part Number - 10/06/17 06:01 AM

I have seen two variations of the 2863215 7 blade engine cooling fan. One version has the part number ink stamped on one of the blades and the other version has the part number stamped into the metal at the end of one of the blades. I am looking to buy a correct one for my 69 Hemi. On ebay one of the sellers states that he believes that the ink stamped version is correct for pre 70 and the metal stamped version is correct for 70 and later. Does anybody know for certain if this is true?...Thanks

My understating is that the ink stamped one came on 69 down like you have been told. I have pulled several off of cars in the wrecking yards. I may have an extra one. PM me if you are interested.

My 1970 Duster 340 had an ink stamped part number on the fan blade.

Just checked my 68 Hemi Charger which I am sure is all original - it has no stamped numbers

Looking at the ones I have in the shop, I think it would be very easy to wipe the white numbers off pretty easily. Things don’t rust in my area like they do in some places but the sun gets hot enough to bake paint.

I just confirmed that the Hemi Daytona currently owned by David Spade, which by the way is for sale, had the 215 fan that had the part number stamped into the metal. Therefore it looks like I will buy one of the NOS fans pictured in the previous post.

Not to hijack the thread but which one had a wider range of applications - ink stamped or metal stamped?

Does the 215 have a different pitch then the 216? Which moves more air?

Yes there is a noticeable difference in the two as seen on the ends of each blade.
Also 216 is 18.5 inches , 215 is 18 inches.
First picture 216 in front, 215 in rear.
Second picture shows end cut difference as well,

From what I have seen on the ones I have bought from wrecking yards and labeled them, the 215 fans are on 340 and 69 down high rpm cars. The a12 cars started the 216 with the big rad. Most 340 a body cars got the 215. Both fans could come one any application so you can find them on anything. I’m sure the stamped ones Alan has are NOS bought well into the 70’s or 80’s and would be the ones last made and sold through dealers. Most of the earlier cars I have seen had the ink stamped. They changed at some time to the stamped ones.

Do both style fans use the same shroud?

For the most part yes but your shroud is more a function of the radiator it is attached to.
