Attention - CDF's ("Certified Detail Freaks")

Attention - CDF's ("Certified Detail Freaks") - 02/26/09 05:35 PM

I have attached two photos of an NOS throttle cable (3418839) which fits 70 E-Body 383 and 71 E/Body 383/440.

Notice the candy red paint, and of course the date code.

I would like some input (for the benefit of all of course) as to paint markings on other year/engine combinations. Of particular interest would be 71 340 E-Body (3577525). I believe it is green, but would like to confirm via a survivor car or vintage NOS piece.

Thanks!

Bill,
Here's your confirmation. Most of the green paint stayed on the wrapper, but there is some residue on the cable.

Steve,

Thanks for the response.

I have two of those already, and still hope to find someone with a period-correct piece to confirm the green tint.

Here's an original on a 71 Hemi Cuda, it was well covered in Mint Green paint but has deteriorated a bunch over the years.

We at Rocket Restorations just got three "lunch pail" cables with 70-71 dates. Pictured; top is used original 71 Hemi Cuda 20" length trace of mint green paint, second down new Hemi 20" mint green with 2180 date, third 22" red ink spot 1229 date, bottom 30" no color 2?60 date
I don't know application on the last two but I hope the picture will help out in identifing assembly line vs. later replacement cables. Does anybody know the application on the 22" and the 30" cable?

Scott and Mike,

Thanks for the info.

That 30" cable may be a Slant 6 piece!

Bill
I have several loose NOS cables with no part number for application that are the same dimensions, length, etc as the 3577525 70-71 340. These have a tinge of yellow paint as seen with what appears to be 0858 date.
I was thinking perhaps these could be 68 340 throttle cables.
68-9 340 is part number 2899336.

Terry,

Nice pieces, and most likely correct for 68 340 as indicated.

I am continuing to discover that these paint markings on the cables were generally very faint, and simply disappeared over the course of time.
