BH23N1 shaker car

BH23N1 shaker car - 02/25/09 01:28 PM

We have this car at my shop. The owner claims its an original shaker/rear louver car which it appears to be. Unfortunately theres no fender tag and the build sheet is gone unless its behind the dash or in the headliner

It does have the hole punched not drilled in the firewall for the cables and has a 3 speed wiper motor.

If the car is or isnt the owner doesnt seem to care, its his car and hes happy with it. Hes added the gilled fenders and cut out valance and swapped in a 440-6bbl though he says he has the original base for the 383 4bbl at home.

I figured I would share it with everyone knowing that its a car that isnt know to exist.

We had a discussion in an earlier thread about the cars that had the rear window louvers. If your car has a vinyl top, did it have the textured rear window trim that was painting the same color as the top? I have a set of that trim that came off of my Sisters Cuda with a white vinyl top. I do not think it had rear louvers on the car. It has been too long ago to remember if it had the original top on the car when we bought it. If it only came on rear window louvered cars, then why did mine come with it?

Yes, TX9, black top, black interior. As for trim, Im not sure. The owner all ready had it off when he delivered it. I believe it was chrome though and if it was it will be.

How about some measurements of where those louver rivnuts are at on the roof just to use as a ballpark figure?

People often ask for measurements but I haven't seen anyone come up with those yet.

P.S. I agree about the textured rear window trim being on gran coupes and louver cars, but so far I've only seen it in black. Did it come in other colors too?

I have two gran coupes and neither of them have the textured trim, just chrome.

I bet that neither had vinyl roofs on them then.
Speaking of vinyl roofs, the pictures provided of the car in question, show incorrect roof studs for the louvers. They definitely look "aftermarket".
Tav: The textured trim that was available in other colors was available on 1971 B cars, all 1970 B cars had black trim. B = Barracuda

I mentioned in the last thread that I parted a 1970 FJ5 340 4-spd louver equipped 'Cuda and that it came with standard stainless backlight moldings, not textured.

Rivet nuts look correct to me, the louver rivet nut is the same that was used for the ralley miirrors.
The differance in the original versus aftermarket is the OD is larger on the after market requiring the hole to be enlarged.

I know the Parts Book shows that the Louver Rivits and the Door Rivits are the same number 6026292. I have an original louver car with painted racing mirrors and the Rivits are different from each other on the car.The Louver Rivits are longer. The Parts book shows two different Screws 3400353 for the Louvers and 187709 for the Door Mirrors. My Louver screws are much longer than my Door Mirror screws.

The Rivits in the picture do look much the same as the ones on my car, minus the puddy or body work that make them look tear drop like in the picture.

That explains it. Most of the cars I've seen were 1970 models. Thanks m46rat!

Yes

The louvers/rivnuts would have to be installed after the vinyl top correct?

Wouldn't that make the rivnuts loose if the vinyl was removed?

Yes they went in after the top.

I dont know if I agree with this statement.
Original window louvered vinyl top cars I have seen had the top installed after the rivets.
Here's a picture of a patch of vinyl I removed and kept from a parted window louvered Challenger over 25 years ago clearly showing the top was installed over the rivets.
