foam seal for Strato Vent upper duct - 03/31/17 01:14 PM

Would anybody be able to share a pic of an original seal (if there ever was one) in the metal flange between the heater box and the upper transfer duct to a 71 b body Plymouth? I would like to know how thick and how wide to cut the seal before installing the duct to the strato vent. Thanks

I got a replacement seal from DMT

Thanks flypaper. I know the feeling. I ordered up a kit from DMT for my car. Every seal, gasket and rope caulking was included except that one. I will post a pic soon to illustrate the flange that I`m talking about. Maybe that will help.

It's the rectangular looking flange with a tab for a sheet metal screw in front of the strato vent vacuum actuator. Of course, I could make something but would like to see how the original is cut and installed to reduce leakage at that point.

The strato seals are a separate kit
I bought my kit from him at a show
And he didn't have the strato kit in stock
So he sent to me later it in the mail

Weird. My kit came with all of the strato vent seals and gaskets except that one. It's no bother. I could make something up, but would need dimensions; how thick, what material, inside edges go where? I'll take a stab at it tonight.

Can you take pictures of where the other 3 Stratovent foams that are in the kit go? I thought thats all there were. I can laser cut that one for you today and drop in the mail if you give me some dimensions.

I'm doing 2 71 heater boxes at the moment also ..
i just tore 3 heater boxes down,1 now for parts
and haven't had the chance to blast a few things
before i start to put them back together.
so i haven't really checked where all the seals go yet.

when i took my strato box apart it was filled up with acorns
and the heater motor wheel had a big chunk chewed out of it by some damn rodents..
i'm so glad i did not sell off a spare heater box i have
that is now being raped for parts.
i look at the extra kit i have and it appears that seal is in there.
i will find out when i cross that bridge.

Hey Lou,

Does it need that tab and screw hole in it? If so shoot me the dimensions for that too.

The box looks SPECTACULAR.

In my opinion, no. if you were to foam that tab and screw hole, it would be more of a hindrance than an asset.

I've been using CAD programming industrial machines, robots, servos, lasers, CNC , vinyl cutters for 30 years. Technology is cool and fast.

My newest toy I mean tool. 54" tangential knife vinyl cutter. It steers the knife thru the cut instead of dragging it like inexpensive cutters and is lightning fast.

The little parts on these boxes are becoming more and more scarce to find. Don't throw anything away. if it looks like a twisted piece of useless metal, it's probably the correct shaft for your strato vent door.
