Neutral safety switch - 69 Dart - 03/07/17 03:46 AM

I just got a new neutral safety switch from Year one. This is for a 69 dart gts with auto. It was to replace the original that I have. Nothing wrong with it really, I just wanted to upgrade my electrical. The main connector to the transmission is identical and the 2 wires run up to the bulkhead connector exactly the same as the one I have. Here is the problem, the brown wire that splits off from the taped wire harness has a push on clip that goes to the starter relay. The new one is way to short to reach the relay. It is only 7" long and my relay is up,near the battery tray and needs to be more like 18" or so. I called M and H and I seemed to have stumped him.
Does anyone know what's going on? Is my relay in the wrong spot? It doesn't seem like the relay would be close to the firewall but it would have to be for this wire to reach.

I'm thinking they shipped the wrong harness or made them wrong ?? pic's would help wink the relay is supposed to be on the LF fender panel between the battery and shock tower. Can you compare to the old harness ?? shruggy

The old harness looks exactly the same as the new one except that the brown wire for the relay is way to short. They said they have sold them for years that way with no complaints. I don't see much option other than to splice in a longer brown wire to make it work.

I would send them a pic of the two harnesses and the engine compartment / relay location. argue and see what their response is. It's wouldn't be the first time I've heard the

I didn't realize that Darts had the starter relay on the inner fender near the shock tower. My b-bodies have all had the starter relay near the bulkhead disconnect/master cylinder on the firewall. Sounds like you got one for a b-body (or maybe E-body)

Thanks for that information, the guy at M and H told me that they use the same harness with the b body. I guess that's why the wire is so short if the b body relay is near the bulkhead connector.

The L38569 is for 69 A-bodies A/T up to around Nov 15 68. I had to modify it slightly, no splicing!

Un wrap the harness tape back to the point the brown will now reach separately up to the starter relay. Re-wrap the Violet and black w/trace back up to the connectors and plug into the bulkhead. The brown was not supposed to be wrapped all the way!

M&H built several harness assemblies for me that were not offered through the retail chain. Ma Mopar did not give them every last template, this harness was changed mid year and do not think they got the updated template.

If you have one not offered just arrange to send them the old one and they will make it and send back both! Their work is great IMO!

Thank you for that, sounds like it should work.
