318 Challenger exhaust route - 02/15/09 01:41 AM

I'm looking to find the eact route of the exhaust coming off the manifolds for a 318. Any photo's would help!!!

I'm building a set of 2.5" pipes right off the stock manifolds. I need to know how close it comes to the starter motor on the Left, the Oil Filter on the Right, tranny & tranny X-member especially - thanks!

Hopefully someone can help you. I've got the factory exhaust still on mine, but its buried under stuff out in the garage. If I don't see a reply in the next day or so, I'll try to get you a pic.

As you allready know...a 318 is going to use a Y pipe right off of the manifolds. If you are "IN" with the guys at the parts store, have them order a Y pipe. You can install it and take all your measurements off of it and then return it.

Its been a few years since I've been a mechanic but I'm sure you can still get a Y at the parts store.

I used to work at an "Exhaust Pros" shop and my boss did a lot of custom exhaust work. Are you sure that you can run 2.5" right off the manifold? You may have to run smaller pipe for a short distance and then expand it. I think stock pipe was only 2". You should be able to go 2.25" off of the manifolds and then go up to 2.5" after the first bend or two.

This is the only picture I have of a stock 318 Y pipe. It gives you a little look at the passengers side but nothing else.

I'm reviving this thread 'cause I'm still looking for help. I got a muffler shop to shrink and pull some 2.5" pipe sections through some donuts that will clamp directly to the stock manny's. But would still like a good look at the stock set up - as you said, the Y pipe portion - so I can build my 2.5" system the same way.
Thanks for any help in finding/taking photo's!!

any possible way that your factory hangers are still on the car? i went to a parts store a few years ago that had an OLD book that had part numbers showing the bends and every piece, hanger, and bolt for both single and dual exhaust cars - that may be an option for you as well. my bet would be that you could basically run it just like an x pipe system for duals, but eliminate the driver's side of it.
