six pack intake - 11/17/16 02:40 PM

Is there a chart or listing for part numbers for these intakes?
casting number is 2946276 or 2946278
Date on the runner 10 9 68 what is it worth?
not bothered about numbers - probably will buy an aluminum one.
Thanks

Re: six pack intake - 11/17/16 04:49 PM

You sure it not a 69 date. 8 and 9 look alike.

Re: six pack intake - 11/17/16 05:47 PM

2946276 likely dated 10 9 69. If so this is a 70 440-6 intake used on B, E and C body models.

That part number was not made until fall of 1969.

Re: six pack intake - 11/17/16 06:57 PM

That is interesting.....must be a factory mistake as that part did not come out until fall of 1969.

That is interesting.....must be a factory mistake as that part did not come out until fall of 1969. 2946275 was the first cast iron 440-6 intake and it was only made for 2-3 months (June-August 69 or so). Then the 2946276 was released.

Re: six pack intake - 11/18/16 03:06 AM

Ok thanks
What about the intake?
Posted By: NANKET

Re: six pack intake - 11/18/16 04:23 AM

2679 4382 is the only original fall1969 carb. The other 2 are over the counter, by the seven digit number stamped into them.

Re: six pack intake - 11/19/16 05:24 PM

Intake $400-$500 maybe less because of the "blem?" casting date
4382 - $250-$350

The other two carbs are replacements so:
4144 - $150-$200
4365 - $100-$150

Assuming rebuildable condition with no missing parts

Re: six pack intake - 11/20/16 06:01 PM

I've seen one the same 1968 date, actually considering buying it. I questioned it as well but oneness definitely 68 not 69.

Re: six pack intake - 12/04/16 07:40 AM

Most likely one the 1st run of castings made by Chrysler for the 70 model year to replace the Aluminum Edelbrock units. Believe me they were at least 1 to 2 years ahead of production on development of engine parts and packages. I had a Cast iron 6-BBL intake cast dated in 1968, it came on my old 1970 440-6 Road Runner. I replaced it with an edelbrock unit and sold the original intake as I wanted to reduce the weight. Those darn cast iron 6-bbl intakes weigh a ton!! Never thought much about the casting date, since I've worked over 40 years now in the Auto Mfg. Industry. I've worked on New Product launches in the Factory and we build pre-pilot & pilot units at least a year and a half in advance of production start-up on the assembly line to make sure production build is correct and all of the bugs are worked out in advance. I started my career at age 20 back in 1976 ..... I would think that protocol was in place back in the day also .....

Wow that's a bunch of money but will it actually sell??
Would the casting mistake make worth more or less???

Not likely but a lot of people think they are gold.

I have 5 70-71 Sixpack cars so I always look for manifolds and carbs - you can find them for $500 or less. All day.

LOL

Back in the 80s you couldn't give away a cast iron sixpack intake. Then they were $200 forever. Now they are $400 to $500.

I think most people want to run an Aluminum manifold for weight.

Yep..... back in the mid 80's I bought a 340 six pack intake with carbs for $100....no lie.

I think my brother has you beat with a 71 Go Wing for $3 in mint condition. The best part is some "dude" passed on it and as soon as the guy put the part down my brother bought it.

you guys would poop in your britches if you knew how much i paid for the complete max wedge top end i own. exhaust manifolds, heads, intake, carbs, linkage. the only thing missing was the air cleaners, and all of it was in operational condition. i will say it was less than halfway between the above mentioned figures. eek some guy at a car show came up to me and said he had the perfect engine parts for my 38 plymouth coupe in his basement at home. his dad used to drag race and took these parts off to rebuild the engine, but sold the car instead. [my coupe had a 360LA] you all know how these guys are at car shows. well, 20min. later he shows back up with this stuff. um, it wasn't a hard decision to make......

I can't believe some of the things that I have been able to buy off of e-pay that the sellers either don't have identified correctly or simply have lousy pictures. I don't doubt a lot of others that browse that site don't have the swap meet experience I have and can't identify a lot of the rarer and highly valuable items by sight. Just as well though, they will be able to find it when I put it back up for auction in a few weeks with a much better description and a whole lot better pictures.
