Hemi power steering coolers

Hemi power steering coolers - 02/12/09 03:36 PM

Does this power steering cooler fit any Hemi's other than 70-71? I know it has other applications but am only worried about Hemi cars.
Thank you for input!!

Thanks,
Bob Schirmer

I think 69 used them as well. I'll have to look to see if the part numbers are the same.

I have a 71 that I think is original and I never had a cooler. This is when I replaced the high pressure hose. Kim

PS coolers came on cars with axle packages.

That explains it -- mine is an a36, 3.55. Kim

...but I can find no record of the part # earlier than 1970. The original drawing print shows a date of 5-27-69 as the design date. 70-71 only?

Thanks,
Bob

I am starting to form the opinion that it was a hit-miss thing to get a PS cooler on a Hemi car. I have had a 69 AT w/A32 4:10 Dana and NO cooler. I have a 70 4spd w/A33 3:54 Dana and NO cooler. I have seen some pictures of Hemi pumps w/ coolers on them , but I think they are an abnormality.

Here's an original, never removed. 1971 Hemi Cuda 4 speed, 3:54 Dana. PS, PDB, car.

Sorry last426, I forgot to list A36...your car "should" have one but like Scott said its seems to be hit and miss.

I helped restore a 70 hemi GTX w/A33 and no cooler. It was a very original running and driving car and I remember being suprised that it didn't have the cooler. But then a friend had a 71 hemicuda, auto/3.23 car and it had a P/S cooler but didn't have a transmission cooler!

Bob,
1969 A12 cars with power steering had the coolers so the coolers were at least available mid year 69'

Quite sure A12's used this cooler.
Bob I believe your pictured cooler was only used on 70-71 Hemis in E and B-bodies, and of course AAR/TA's.
I have some unrelated original drawing prints dated over a year ahead of actual implementation.
Not saying some 69 Hemi B-body didn't get coolers.
If so I'd really like to see a picture of one.
