What have you all done to clean up the inside of a dash ash tray? Do they make the rivets they are put together with?

On the inside you can have it re plated, I think it had zinc on it. I couldn't find the correct rivets, so I used some aircraft rivets. On the outside, they weren't painted with the dash frame so some had a different shade of color.

Removed the ash tray and had them re-plated then I bought some rivets and the tool to install them

I recently had the ash tray replated - clear zinc. I have the rivets but the install didn't go very well so rather than damage anything I used small pop rivets. I'm not doing a full-blown resto so they're good enough for me.

With the correct tool and clinching dies the rivets come out looking exactly the same as factory.

This thread may help a bit, complete with pics of before, after, rivets, where to get them and tool to form

Yep it's a one time investment. I used mine to restore my heater box and ashtray. Just needed different dies.

Same here. My 69 Barracuda Grilles, ashtray, 2 speed wiper motor, heater box and more. Rivets are inexpensive as well.
