About what time frame in 1971 did they change from the wide mouth caliper to the small?
TIA

Any chance you can post a pic of the difference so I know what I am looking for?

Most of the changes in 71 I believe happened in May/June

There is no way of knowing an answer to that question.
Probably the first few weeks of production, would be my thoughts.
Till the supply in inventory from Kelsey Hayes was used up, on the assembly line.
Some pictures of the wide mouth calipers that i sold off from my collection, stash, hoard, of parts.

Chris,

A quick way to tell the difference in the 70 vs the 71 style (other than the width of the front support pads) is the number of circles cast into the back side. The 70 style has 2 circles, and the 71 style only has 1 circle. The reference pic below is the 70 style. I searched and don’t have a 71 reference pic available.

Rob

Is there an advantage to either one?

Only if you are doing an OE correct car and you know based on year (or SPD) that your car had one style or the other.

I think my original question should have been these later style calpers were on my SPD Feb 71 Cuda. Are they correct or have they been changed?

What are you trying to say here?

You currently have the "wide mouth" calipers on your vehicle, and want to know if they have been replaced onto the car, in it's lifetime, or you have the "standard" opening caliper on the car.

Ya, you got me confused.

In a February build date, i would feel certain that the regular, standard, opening caliper would have been installed on the assembly line.

But what's the big deal anyway?
There is no way of ever knowing.

I ordered a Cuda in May 71, built at the end of June, Delivered in July, and it had the standard opening calipers on it.

How do i know this, you ask?
Because i kept the car for 38 years before i sold it off, and believe me, i took, repaired, that vehicle a lot in the 300,000 + miles that i put on it.
