Restoring Charger Tail Light Housings - 07/31/16 04:13 AM

I was wondering what sort of product a person would have the best results with when trying to clean 69 Charger aluminum tail light housings? Also what brand and name of silver paint best matches the reflective paint on the inside of the housings? Thanks.

They are not aluminum, they are pot metal. That is why the pit like they do...from what I can tell

For the inside I thought Krylon Aluminum worked fine. It's the outside that is usually the problem

Krylon chrome for the inside. Krylon dull aluminum for the outside is also very nice.

I definitely do not want to paint the outside. I want to restore them to like new condition for an OE level car.

Then you'll need to find super nice originals

Hi Dave: I actually have NOS housings but they are little bit dull and I wanted to brighten them up to look like new. I see a lot of restored cars with nice looking naturally finished housings but nobody seems to be able to tell me how they get that way.

Scott Smith on the board restores the housings. His business is Harms Auto. Look up his website; it lists the service.

have you tried a vinegar and water mix dip.

For those zinc aluminum alloy die castings there is no plating (the housings that have a dull silver hue). The best way to spruce them up is a quality metal cleaner (Like Never Dull) and a mild polish like (Wenol).
